Display settings reset after a while (SOLVED)
« on: March 23, 2020, 07:39:20 pm »
I changed my display settings to what worked for me, but after a while it just resets to where it was.  It was usually after the screen locked, so I made it where the screen doesn't lock.. no hibernation.. nothing.  It just stays on.  If I leave for a while and come back, the display settings have changed again.

Does anybody know how I can fix that?

Please help us help you by providing the terminal output for :
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz

Then I used the Search function on the forum's title bar, lets see if this thread might lead you to a solution.

G'afternoon @36m2jones! or morning or evening as the case may be wherever you are

Please remember to use the forum tools above the message composition box when copying and pasting terminal outputs, it helps keep the readout formatted properly. Specifically the # button above the laughing and angry emojis...

I've fixed it for you this time around.

I'll need other forum moderators to chime in on this support request though.

I don't know how I'm supposed to use those buttons.  I'm inexperienced.  I tried the # button just to see how it works, and it just says "
Code: [Select]
".   How do I know if I'm doing it right?

After pressing the # button you copy and paste your terminal output...  in between the code] markers[/code

Hi 36m2jones,

Here is a short explanation  (click on the underlined text link to the left of this parenthetical remark) about how to do something like that.

No ideas how to fix this?
When I come back and find the display reset, the online radio I had playing has stopped too; and desktop dimmer stopped.
When I fix the display the dimmer starts again.

Off the top of my head, still having my first coffee of the day out here in quarantine land, it sounds like a screensaver/powermanager issue. Please doublecheck that your powermanager settings don't include a screen timeout. Also, have you enabled or disabled screensavers in any way?

try unchecking the "Dim display when idle" option in the Power Management Preferences window. To get there, right-click the battery icon in your panel, click preferences, and remove the check-mark if it's present.

Looks like I'm in quarantine land now too. I live with my parents and sister and the doctor assumed she has the virus.

"Automatically lock the session:" was set to "when screen saver is activated".  I changed it to never.  All the rest I had already disabled so it would never go to sleep.  Maybe that will work.  I'll have to wait and find out.

Thank you.  Enjoy the coffee.

This worked.

I tried it yesterday and checked today, and the display didn't reset.  I rebooted the computer and when I got past the login screen it was still set the way I had it. 8)

How do I mark this as resolved?
