Export xfce Settings to another system(SOLVED)
« on: November 08, 2017, 05:29:47 am »
So, I have about 7 computers running Peppermint 7 no pun intended LOL  ;D,
I  do plan to upgrade them to the next LTS based version of Peppermint.
I prep for that by reviewing my scripts and software lists from time to time.

Not that my fam customizes xfce too much,  but I was wondering is there any methods to exporting/moving xfce settings to another system.

I was poking around on xubuntu, and other xfce distro forums, and it seems pretty specific in some posts.

Which leads to my question in Peppermint is it doable/recommended?

--Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by "xfce settings" ? .. do you mean the panel ?

Yeah like say you have launchers (I have  20 going across the top panel that I added)  you have added over the  duration of usage.
And you make sure you install all the software for the launchers on the new system.

Is there a way to.... I dunno what to say ........ I guess export then  import those launchers without having to recreate them all manually?

If you're talking solely about the panel you could probably back up the:-
Code: [Select]
~/.config/xfce4/panel
directory.

and the
Code: [Select]
~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml
file.

Then try restoring them on another machine .. then log off/on.

I'd backup the existing directory and file first though, just in case.

Cool, from memory I'm pretty sure that'll work but let me know if it doesn't

I ran  through the tips on a VM and it worked by the way,  nothing broke in my test case.
This is pretty cool to know. Going into my bag of solutions
With that said,  this was just general question should I still mark it as resolved?

I'll leave that up to you this time

I suppose you could edit the FIRST posting and make the title more specific .. such as

Export xfce4-panel settings to another computer (SOLVED)

?
