« on: May 17, 2019, 04:21:39 am »
Good morning i use peppermint 9 one year but i can't shutdown neither reboot properly. It hangs always to shutdown and i have to press the power button  I'll change a lot of things to grub but nothing Can you help me please?????

Yo dude!!!

Last year i have the same problem, annoing as hell.

But i solved it (at least for me!) and i think we have the same problem.

https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,8193.msg84036.html#msg84036

This is the post i maked for solve my problem, as i said, i haved the same problem as you.

First of all, you need to open the
Code: [Select]
etc/default/grub
file and then edit the grub default line and put this:

Code: [Select]
noapic acpi=force reboot=b

What makes this?

This command, noapic acpi=force reboot=b forces the acpi module to reboot. If you want other options than 'b' like off the noapic, but i can't find it right now.

Then, please go to the BIOS and disable the 'wake up for USB' or something like this, Then just reboot the system and see if this works.

See ya!

Development / Creating a Peppermint-Based distro.
« on: May 17, 2019, 04:03:55 am »
Hello all!

I just study the computers, and in my school we have all machines with linux mint.

But i want to make my own distro based on peppermint 9, maybe i finish it in a few days, but i need some responses to my questions, because this is the only thing i need to finish at 100% the distro. (Just a basic distro to increase my eficiency on the classroom, to be honest). Im thinking to make a custom image just for test the system, but i want to make a derivate of peppermint for use at the schools of my country.

  • How can i change the set-up installation images? i mean, the image you see when youre installating the peppermint distro.
  • How can i change the name? I mean, like 'Peppermint GNU/Linux' from [NAMEDISTRO]GNU/Linux

And maybe... just changing the default wallpapers? This is the only few things i need to know for finish my Peppermint based distro.

Any help whould be appreciated :)

See ya!

If you hit the Esc key whilst the system is shutting down, does it give a clue where shutdown is hanging ?

Hi bro!

No, the funny thing when PM freeze on shutdown is that you CAN'T hit any key/use mouse, it just freeze completily.

But i found this method (im gonna edit the post) and now i can shutdown PM correctly.

Hello all.

Today, i finnaly solved my problem with linux, the shutdown.

I know i maked an other post with a posible solution, but after peppermint os 7 that solution i found doesn't work for me at all. (Im now in PM9)

So, after 1 year of investigating the problem, (is not a joke)  i found a solution (or a possible really definitive solution).

Well, the things i made was that:

Go to
Code: [Select]
/etc/default/grub

Then, put this line:

Code: [Select]
noapic acpi=force reboot=b

Then i updated the PM9 kernel 4.15 to 5.0 using uuku

Ok, then i go to BIOS and i set the ACPI enabled and the wake up for USB DISABLED.

Finally, i maked an
Code: [Select]
update-grub
and all should be 100% fine.

That method FINNALY works for me, So its probably that it workds for you too.

Good one! i'm gonna download and install in a few minutes  ;) than you team peppermint!

Minimize it? I mean, that hides it. Unless you want it completely hidden from view, as in not even on the taskbar, then murraymint has a great suggestion.
This! When im in the school we are playing games, so, i need a method to full-hide the window from any view..

Hi DARKBOW923,

I'm sorry but I do not understand what you are wanting to do.  :-\ Do you mean the window border or the entire window? If it is the latter, then how can you use it? Sorry if I seem so dumb, but I really do not get it.  ???

Regards,

Hello, i want to hide a open program, imagine that you are using libreoffice writer, but you want to hide the window, understand? In windows you can do it with programs like Zhider.. thank you for the response.

Hi all, first, sorry for my bad english, but i need to put this tutorial here.

Today i found a solution to my problem, my problem was my linux machine freeze on shutdown, not take's too long to shutdown.

Okay, only if your linux machine freeze on shutdown you can make this tutorial, if your problem is other than i expose on this tutorial, don't follow this steps

Okay, i tested this method in my new linux mint, but i see that worked for me on peppermint 8 machine, so here are the requeriments:

Minimum  knowledge on terminal emulator.

Distro based on ubuntu/debian

A PC with this problem.

Minimum knowledge of GRUB.

Okay, this steps are too easy to make, just type on a terminal:

Code: [Select]
sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Then navigate to this line:

Code: [Select]
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

Modify this line like this:

Code: [Select]
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force"

Finally, just save and close, then run this command in your terminal:

Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub

FInal step: Restart your machine.

I say an last thin, this worked for me in linux mint 18 and peppermint 8 im pretty sure that maybe work's for you..

Bye!

Nice, glad to hear it's still helping people :)

I really should get round to posting the fix for screen tearing for nvidia prime (nvidia/intel) setups .. where the screen tears badly when the nvidia profile is selected.

I only have a question.. why appears the screen tearing? i think the enterprises like intel or nvidia are sufficient smart to make an solution with a driver update or similar, but, hey, we need 'external' solution like this tutorial or other method to fix it.. I think, that to the intel or nvidia don't care about this problem and doesn't make nothing to fix it..
