Title: problems installing other terminals
Post by: Seadevil on June 25, 2018, 03:10:38 pm
next question,  I installed gnome-terminal   also   Terminator.  Neither one works.

1. gnome-terminal  says it installed in the peppermint terminal....but I can't find it anywhere in the menu.  doesn't show up.

2. Terminator is in the menu, but only opens the peppermint terminal ...nothing else.

how can i fix this?   There is no menu bar in peppermint terminal to change anything.

Do they work if you launch them from the terminal?

Something is seriously wrong if the Terminator menu item launches the Peppermint Terminal, because it's "Exec=" line should read
Exec=terminator

I'd get it if it read
Exec=x-terminal-emulator
because that alternative point to sakura .. but it point DIRECTLY to terminator.

For Gnome Terminal to show up in the menu you'll have to run:
Code: [Select]
sudo xed /usr/share/applications/gnome-terminal.desktop
and change the line
Code: [Select]
Name=Terminal
to
Code: [Select]
Name=Gnome Terminal
and the line
Code: [Select]
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;
to
Code: [Select]
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;LXDE;
and save the file.

You'll then find it in the menu at

Menu > System > Gnome Terminal

Is this a full, clean installation, or have you retained the /home folder from a previous older distro version?
