When I go Menu>Graphics>XSane Image scanning program, I get
file:///home/albert/Desktop/Screenshot_001.jpg

oops, I'm going to have to read up on how to add a screenshot to posts. At any rate it's a box that says "Error durinc CMS conversion; Could not open scanner ICM profile"

How is the scanner attached ?

USB, or network/wireless ?

Have you installed hplip-gui and tried scanning through that ?
Hi PCNetSpec, the printer is connected via USB. Yes I have installed hplip-gui previously. If I scan thru simple scan, save the document, then open the document in Gimp Image Editor, I can edit the document fine. That extra step of scanning with simple scan is what I would like to eliminate. If I open GIMP Editor and choose to Create from XSane, it will show the printer info and when I click on it is when I get the same error code that I got if I just clicked of XSane scanner.

Hello again, Iwent to the sane help site where they are giving instructions to help with this but I'm not sure what I should be typing prior to their run lines
"The SANE frontend (like xsane or xscanimage) does not start or aborts with a segmentation fault.
Edit /usr/local/etc/sane.d/dll.conf (or /usr/etc/sane.d/dll.conf) and comment out all but the backend you need. To do this add a "#" at the beginning of the relevant lines.
make sure there is only one sane version installed before you compile xsane (try as root: $find / -name "*sane*" | less)
If you used an earlier version of xsane before remove the configuration directory: rm -rf ~/.sane/xsane (you have to enter all configurations again afterwards).
make sure there is only one gtk-config and only one gimp-config file on your system (find / -name "g*-config").
Do not install any self compiled source package over binary packages, in most cases the installation paths are different so the old versions are not overwritten!
If that does not help try to find out where the error occurs:

    gdb xscanimage
    r <enter>
    after the frontend returned:
    backtrace <enter>
Any help would be appreciated

Hello again Peppermint people, I have installed XSane scanner and am attempting to learn how to use it but it will not connect to my scanner or I get an error during CMS conversion:could not open scanner ICM profile. Initially, I had problems connecting my printer, probably because I'm still not sure of what I'm doing, but I eventually did get it connected, But after it was printing , I couldn't scan with simple scan and so I installed XSane .  Xsane would scan but only in black and white. Also I connected the printer after installing HPLIP and only by using cups website. For some unknown reason simple scan started working so XSAne isn't so important anymore but why am I getting these error codes?

Software & Applications / Re: Movie Maker Playback too Small(REOPENED)
« on: September 02, 2015, 03:59:51 pm »
Okay, that did the trick, no idea why the file was corrupted when we copied from the repo but it's working now. The download file also had in it reference to Lintian Output which it identified as not being installed and gave the terminal directions to install it, which I did prior to purging but that didn't change anything. I guess we'll never know but it's working now. Thanks all, until the next time ;D

run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge ffdiaporamathen
Code: [Select]
rm -rv ~/.ffDiaporamathat's it purged and the hidden files gone.

Now what format does the download take .. is it a .deb file ?
Hi PCNet Spec okay, I've done the purge and removal. the download file is a deb file. It has an option in it to download file, should I just click on that?

Installation / Installing Peppermint 6 from a cd(SOLVED)
« on: September 02, 2015, 12:24:30 pm »
Hello Peppermint people :-\. I have two real simple questions about installing. First of all, is allowing 10gb for swap too much? And upon completing installation do I leave the cd in and reboot or take it out first? I ask that because it's been such a long time since I loaded an os from cd that I couldn't remember. When I loaded Peppermint 6 on this hard drive I removed the cd and then rebooted and as soon as I hit reboot I got an error message that installation didn't complete or close or something like that. So far things have gone pretty good on this installation with the exception of ffDiaporama so I'm thinking maybe that had something to do with it. So what's the verdict?

« on: September 02, 2015, 11:48:39 am »
hello again, I communicated with the forum people of ffdiaporama and they suggest I perform a purge of the repository files, including hidden files and then reinstall the file from their website. I downloaded the file into downloads and I think I can handle the purge but I don't know how to eliminate the hidden files or upload the file from the dounload. So here I am again needing help with that. Any takers?

Great stuff, I'll have a think about trimming the AA1 tutorial to suit every PC and linking to it from the user guide.

I take it this is what you meant ?

Hi PCNetSpec, maybe a must do note at the end of the installtion chapter about updating sys files refering to instructions at the end of chapter 4. And a note after those instructions saying something like "if you use Skype, do this".

Hi Slim, well that explains it all, that, clicking exactly on the triangles, is what I didn't know but I stumbled on opening the find box, which I couldn't remember at this time. Oh well, all's well that ends well, thanks again Slim, by the way, you sure know some hot chicks.
And PCNetSpec, I'm glad we both learned something today

Hi alynur,

If you are satisfied with the results you can mark it [SOLVED] or perhaps in this case [CLOSED] might be more appropriate. It is not seldom that people will still come back with other answers / solutions / suggestions even after after marking a thread [SOLVED] or [CLOSED].

Regards,

Okay, will do

Okay PCNetSpec, I found that if I highlight org and then click on dconf-editor in the upper left corner I get the option to find, about and quit and if I then click on find I get the find box, then type nemo in the box and click next it puts gnome below org and below that are a few others and finally desktop, below desktop is a11y then applications with a lot of options below it and then wm . Under applications I think it was in interface where I found the boxes for Comp, Home, Trash and Network but those boxes aren't there anymore. Is that because I already applied them to the desktop? At any rate the program is not dead like I thought it was. I don't see anything else there that I would know what I'm doing  so I won't do anything. I'll mark this as solved since the program is working should I need it in the future(under supervision of course), another example of not knowing how to do things. You guys make me feel so dumb. Thanks again

I take it you mean dconf-editor ?

if so, I don't ever remember there being a search box in dconf-editor  :-\
yes I do, sorry bout that. when I was trying to follow the instructions to put Computer/Home/etc. on the desk top, the only way I could get from org to nemo was by inserting nemo in the search box and clicking search, otherwise nothing would happen when I highlight and right or left click org. Doing so did allow me to get to desk and click what I wanted. After doing all that I somehow removed the search option and now when I open dconf I can highlight the left hand options but that's as far as it goes.
Hi alynur, how's it going?  Thanks for using the Insert Code function when posting terminal outputs.  However, could you please encapsulate the output rather than placing the whole function at the beginning of the output.  I've corrected it this time - many thanks  ;).
Hi AndyInMokum, if what you mean is insure the curser is between the two code boxes before clicking paste. that's what I'm doing. Otherwise, you lost me.
