I know this is an horror and an insult to all Linux users (or even illegal) BUT it is the best weapon I have used to trick windows users to come over to the "Force". Friends and family are baffle how their desktop resemble their familiar windows pc and they feel much more comfortable to dump their virus infected OS (which I keep fixing). So you can use this to convince them. Slowly I am going to introduce them to the real PM desktop once they are hooked  ;)

- source mod package :
- background image : any windows background will do !

Please DO NOT used that for your day to day PM session or total shame on you.

General Discussion / Peppermint vs Linux Lite (Lxde vs Xfce)
« on: October 24, 2015, 08:04:23 am »
I am playing with both right now and I wish I can merge them together. I still prefer PM but I would really like to get the whisker menu of LL (with the search) and the more advanced settings. I prefer the PM file manager Nemo then Thunar anytime. The LL team has done a good job lately with the "all in one" setting windows. I am not sure which one is faster though .

Probably I would recommend the PM team to go with Xfce for 7 or offer both. Then we'll be in paradise.

Btw special thanks for the PM team and their admirable work.

General Discussion / Some items needs language translation to be consistant
« on: September 30, 2015, 08:29:22 pm »
Note : Using the French edition here, while a good job has been done for most of it, some features/controls are not yet translated from English. Things like "Peppermint Control Centre", "Software Centre" are not. Throughout translation would improve the international reach of the distro.

Btw If there is no one to do it, I will be glad to help out.

Software & Applications / Smplayer not able to use mpv [SOLVED]
« on: September 30, 2015, 02:16:11 pm »
I am trying to have smplayer use the mpv player as default but it keep popping up an error in starting playing videos. Smplayer is the latest version (15.9) but I am not sure if mpv from the rep is. I think we are up to 0.11 with it.  How can I get the version number of mpv ? Smplayer works fine with the mplayer engine but mpv is more capable and updated.

I have smplayer using mpv on my Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.2 with no problem.
Not a dramatic problem though.

Installation / How to remove bars (streak) from the menu (backgound)
« on: September 29, 2015, 04:50:22 am »
How can I remove the terrible horizontal bars running behind the menu while using the dark theme. I saw a video by The Linux Help Guy that a patch was made but I cannot find it again. I just install PM6 and those bars are still there ! They render the text fuzzy like hell.

New Users / What does the "Graphic interface options" affect ? [SOLVED]
« on: September 13, 2015, 04:57:03 pm »
Another thing, in the (...translate from my French installation)

Appearance personnalisation / Others    -> Graphic interface options : Tools bar style : "Text under, above etc..."  and "Icons style" in tool bar.

I can't see where those effects apply. May be I am dumb, but can anyone point me where to look please ?

Software & Applications / Vitualbox addons on Peppermint 6 nogo [SOLVED]
« on: September 13, 2015, 10:26:51 am »
Hi, I just install the new Peppermint 5 iso in virtualbox 5. Work fine but it wont install the guest addons. I tried to have VB install the addons from the interface menu but it says it cannot do it because of permission something ?  I then download directly the addons from the VB site, a DEB file and the installation went fine. Still I cannot resize  the main window. It is stuck at 640x480.
I think that use to be fine on the previous versions.  Any change there ?

General Discussion / Discover PM 6 and it's a pleasant surprise
« on: August 23, 2015, 06:57:54 am »
Hello new to Peppermint. I don't know how I ended up finding PM6 but what a surprise. After running it in vbox, I installed it on an older computer as my main distro. The important features is that it's solid, recognize all hardware flawlessly, is lightweight but has the possibility to add bazillions of programs and addons  from the Ubuntu archives. I am not sure how ICE will be useful for me but I will experiment with it. Very original idea. The only things missing for me is a menu search function. I install synapse but something like that should be present after install. Also a notification utility.  Finally the software archive is pretty slow to open. Beside that it is a terrific and can only growth better from here.

P.S this anti-spam thing is the most annoying feature of a forum I have seen. May be use something quicker.
