Not trying to stir this thread up again but getting back to the original posters question, I understand Cairo Dock has a reputation of being a resource hog but to be honest I've never experienced that, I use it on my desktop PC and an old Dell laptop with no issues at all,  top shows on average about 0.5% cpu and 2% mem, Cairo Clock on the other hand almost ground my PC to a halt

I've found the more I try to learn about Linux development the less I actually understand so I can only judge a desktop environment on how it works for me personally, and recently I tried Gnome Shell with Lubuntu 14.04 and I have to say I really like it, it's very easy to navigate and very polished and to be honest I don't find any significant speed difference with LXDE and I don't have a particularly powerful PC.

There are many native Linux programs that can crop jpegs Gimp would be one example but if you don't need anything so sophisticated there are many others that can crop such as Mirage or Shotwell to name a few .

Wherever possible it's always better to use native applications , Wine is ok for those applications that has no Linux alternative but that's really quite rare these days.

I can't give you a plausible explanation for the file corruption perhaps some of the smarter guys can help with that

I'm not 100% sure about PM3 but in PM 4 startup applications are stored at /home/<username>/.config/autostart, you could try there

Good luck

Peppermint is based on Ubuntu, which is known as very safe and well-maintained.

That's true

I was very surprised that something like this could happen with an Ubunti-based distro

I'm confused here, Isn't this problem on your Windows partition ??

Irretrievable data loss is a strong discouragement for people against using a system.

I agree I keep telling people never to use Windows but they will insist  :)

Yeah I agree with mac here

Airdroid is amazing it can do anything you can do with a wired connection and it's so easy to use and they've even recently added a theming application

I'm not sure what else to suggest regarding the poor picture quality hopefully someone more savvy will suggest something

I wonder if the issue with version 9 is because there are two Desktop pages by default? If so, is there a way to reduce that to just one?

I take it by Desktop Pages you mean workspaces if so go to Menu>Preferences>Workspaces a box should appear showing the number of workspaces you can reduce the number of workspaces there

Good luck

Hi chesterton

If the colours are all wrong have you tried optimising the quality by clicking "View">Optimise Quality

Good luck

Hardware / Re: Install Printer with T23 ,Pmint 3
« on: April 16, 2014, 01:54:45 am »
Hi Bob

You may need an extra driver package for that printer so open synaptic package manager and look for brother-cups wrapper-laser and install it
or open terminal type the following

if this is a wireless printer is it already connected to the network ?

if so open the terminal and type

sudo apt-get install brother-cups-wrapper-laser, then system-config-printer

The "Add Printer" dialogue box should open select "Add +" another box will open up if your see you printer listed click on it and select "> Forward"
the next box should show a list of manufacturers, select Brother then > Forward, when the next box opens look for your printer model select it then
"> Forward again and hopefully your printers installed and ask you if you want to do a test print select "Yes to test.

If you don't see your printer listed in Add Printer dialogue Box stop and post back here

Good luck

I wouldn't mind having a go at the simpler ones with some guidance, I enjoy experimenting with vokoscreen & openshot,

probably something like screencasts with written subtitle because I also have a face best suited for radio and a voice like a coo farting up a close
