GNU/Linux Discussion / Re: Ubuntu MATE 14.10
« on: November 25, 2014, 11:05:55 am »
I'm using Mint 17 + Mate and i must say, it will survive the Gnome3 evolution. Mate cannot be compared to Gnome3 since it is a fork of good old Gnome2 and therefore it has its own path of evolution.

Mint made Mate looking pretty easy with the Mintmenu plugin for Mate, the old Gnome2 look could still appeal some users, but it has to be competitive with the (slightly more advanced) Xfce desktop which had an increase of users after the introduction of Unity.

But as far as we are standing now, i believe this latest development comes rather a bit too late. Most users already has chosen some desktop they prefer to use and i'm not that sure any more that there are users out there who wants to return to the old Gnome2 feel and look....

Can this be of any assistance for you:
https://sites.google.com/site/usertipslinuxmint/clean-up-linux-mint

Another tool which can be helpfull is Bleachbit. This tool works equally as CCleaner under Windows. Basically it it a GUI tool combining several cleaning options of several programs, for example: it cleans browser cache and history, it runs the apt-get autoclean and apt-get autoremove tools amongst many more.

Bleachbit has 2 options: 1) as a regular user only cleaning your /home folder and 2) as root cleaning all sorts of files on root ( / ) incl. your /home folder. When i was using Bleachbit, the first time it cleaned up more than 200 mb of "trash" (old log files, old backup files, cache files, history files).

Is cardapio still under development?? When i go the Launchpad site, the last packages were meant for Ubuntu Quantal: https://launchpad.net/~cardapio-team/+archive/ubuntu/cardapio-ppa

And they are/were looking for new developers: https://launchpad.net/cardapio/+announcement/11268

So... looking at all this, is it wise to add something to Peppermint OS 5 (Ubuntu 14.04) which isn't really meant for this release??

Hi,

It seems that LXterminal cannot be sized tom what i want.
Normally i set the terminal size to 120x40, but LXterminal doesn't seem to have some option to set the terminal size. Can this be done in a different way??

And that also works with the hotkey's combination?
For instance, under Win7 when i press superkey + arrow right, the active window will be moved to the right corner.

Installation / Some installation issues
« on: November 21, 2014, 05:51:03 am »
Hi all,

During the installation of Peppermint i noticed 2 things:

1) In the boot menu of the live-cd when i choose the option Install Peppermint.... the setup stopped after the second screen
2) When selecting the option to try out Peppermint first, the setup went through all steps without problems and installed Peppermint correctly

Although Peppermint is installed correctly, the whole procedure of booting into a live session and installing Peppermint felt somewhat sluggish.

Did anyone else had this issue?

Installation / Can't find a specific file

Hi

I found a tutorial to get the Aero snap under Lubuntu (and hopefully Peppermint). However, i can't locate the following file:
Quote
.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml

Does Peppermint has such file?

Thanks for the info!

I'm not selling anything. It's more meant like a tips/tricks site. I've done this since Ubuntu, creating a website with Google Sites to put stuff on that site which helped me and maybe others.

So basically it will be a personal help/tips guide.

The big bonus is, it is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.  This effectively gives Peppermint Five, five years of support, (April 2019).

As far as i understood this, Lubuntu 14.04 LTS will get 3-years support instead of the full 5-year support:

From Wikipedia.org:
Quote
14.04 LTS   Trusty Tahr   2014-04-17   April 2017   Long-term support release, supported for 3 years

I've read somewhere else that the 3-year support only applies for Lubuntu specific software and that Lubuntu will get (Ubuntu) security updates for 5 years... Not sure is this is true.

Please note that the images are copyrighted and though we encourage their use for your own creations, we ask that you do not use these to represent any projects or companies besides Peppermint. For instance, we welcome their use in a custom icon theme or a custom Peppermint themed wallpaper, but we do not welcome their use as a logo representing a new company or project that is not affiliated with Peppermint.

Is it okay to use this artwork package on a website which will be related to Peppermint?

I disagree with both of those statements (particularly the "more configurable" one), but each to their own. ;)

Can you pls. explain your statement. Why do you disagree.
