My observation has been that much of the so-called special procedures undertaken by the un/misinformed just to sound more “geeky” than others are counterproductive. 8)

Yep, over-provision, try never to completely fill the drive, that's it.

You shouldn't still be getting that puzzle .. it should only happen until your first post is approved (an anti-spambot measure)

Are you still getting it ?

One of my 'connections' on LinkedIn posted the article. He's a Tech Specialist at Enabling Devices

I think he has a sweet spot in his heart for Peppermint...    ;)

Nice :)

Thanks clatterfordslim :)

You're likely to get more meaningful responses if people know what kinda games you play (and at what graphics detail) .. so they kinda get a handle on the minimum graphics card spec you're gonna need.

And possibly some kinda spending limit.

Networking / Re: Accessing WIFI networks

You don't need a password for ethernet connections.

is anything else in the house able to access the internet ? .. if so I can only assume it's a hardware or driver issue, such as a non-working ethernet driver or possibly just a bad ethernet cable, or possibly just a hardware switch (or key combo) set to disable ethernet.

Can you somehow post the output from
Code: [Select]
lshw -C network
Code: [Select]
Code: [Select]
nmcli g
Code: [Select]
nmcli c

copy output to a text file, copy text file to another computer, post here.

I thought you understood we're 'evil corp' in disguise .. heck someone on youtube even accused me of devil worship :))

Does the building have broadband .. have you considered Google Stadia (where the graphics heavy lifting is done at googles end) on a laptop you already own ?

Great news Papelac :)

Nice writeup :)

Hardware / Re: Strange Video artifact
« on: December 27, 2019, 04:06:28 pm »
Okay that's just weird, I can think of nothing in that upgrade that should affect video, except maybe the size of the default wallpaper file (which is definitely bigger in PM10, so would likely take up more video memory).

Unless it's crashing at the login screen, where it might be light-locker that's causing it.

Beyond those two things, I can only wonder if it's hardware, such as bad sectors on the HDD that maybe you're not reaching with Pep9 (but may do after some updates .. that said they may not have the same crashing video affect depending on what lands on them).
