Sure it could be that simple ;)

try right-clicking the xfce4-power-manager icon in the system tray (by the clock) and selecting "Properties"

Then go to
On AC > Monitors (tab)

and move the "Brightness" slider all the way to the left.

I'm just not 100% sure this is connected to wireless .. so want to know how it behaves without a wireless connection.

Try removing "quiet splash" from the kernel boot line and see if the scrolling text gives you a clue to where the boot is stalling.

Installation / Re: PM5 no hibernation available. [SOLVED]

If I find a fix for this, it'll be in the tutorial I writeup each year for installing Peppermint on an Acer Aspire One (zg5) .. so keep an eye out for that.

If I remember, I'll put it here too .. but I probably wont, age doing it's thing to what was probably an already addled brain :)

.......marked as solved? :-\

Sorry I should have explained .. to mark a topic as (SOLVED) you have to edit the FIRST posting in your topic (not the last) otherwise it doesn't get changed in the board indexes (indices ?).

I'll do this one for you :)

Are you absolutely SURE this is connected to having an active wifi connection ?

Turn off your router .. does it still do it ?

Unload your wireless drivers:
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe -r ath9k
does it still do it ?

You can reload the wireless drivers with:
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe ath9k

Constructive criticism is WELCOME .. this rubbish is easily ignorable, and not even close to a "review".

Strange .. all the Aussies I've ever met don't normally suffer petty people with an inflated sense of self importance .. heck they invented the saying "Whingeing Pom" which as a Brit, I thank them for ;)

You're most welcome :)

Continually running fan - NO, acerhdf will already be installed and it works properly with the 3.13 kernel, so all you need to do now is run:
Code: [Select]
sudo -i
Code: [Select]
touch /etc/modprobe.d/acerhdf.conf
Code: [Select]
echo "options acerhdf interval=5 fanon=60000 fanoff=55000 kernelmode=1" >> /etc/modprobe.d/acerhdf.conf
Code: [Select]
modprobe -r acerhdf
Code: [Select]
modprobe acerhdf
Code: [Select]
to configure it.

Battery life - YES, same fix, just install TLP as in the Peppermint 4 tutorial here:

Any more tweaks you'll have to wait for ( I still need to test them) .. although some are already applied by default in Peppermint 5 such as PulseAudio which is now installed by default :)

New Users / Re: Peppermint 5 Does Not Detect Windows 7
« on: June 28, 2014, 07:01:11 pm »
If you cannot burn it to a DVD, and absolutely need to create a Windows 7 USB installation media .. see here:

But I'm afraid you're going to require another Windows PC to create it on.

If it's the same PC as you started this topic about, just upgraded to Peppermint 5 .. YES, apply the same fix.

We can always undo it if necessary ;)
