Installation / Re: trouble installing Peppermint 4
« on: May 22, 2014, 10:04:41 pm »
If it ends with a:-
Boot:
prompt .. try typing:-
live
and hitting enter

19667
run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ttf-mscorefonts-installer flashplugin-installer ubuntu-restricted-extras lubuntu-restricted-extras

and remember what I said about using the tab key for the EULA ;)

I didn't actually think it would help in this case .. but it's something I suggest as a first step with ANY audio problem .. in fact I think it should be installed by default ;)

19669
run:
Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg --configure -a

when prompted for the ttf-mscorefonts-installer  EULA, use the "Tab" key to highlight the OK and hit enter .. I think you have to do this twice.

If it doesn't prompt you for the EULA let me know.

Installation / Re: flashplayer on Optiplex GX270 not working

Can you open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and post the output (if any) from running this command:
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep sse2

Can we stop chatting in Gunterw's support topic please

@Gunterw

couple of things to try

First let's install the ubuntu-restricted-extras and lubuntu-restricted-extras packages:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras lubuntu-restricted-extras
Then close ALL we browser instances and restart Chromium .. does it work now ?

If not, try purging then reinstalling the flashplayer:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge flashplugin-installer
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-installer
Then close ALL we browser instances and restart Chromium .. does it work now ?

if not .. try starting Chromium from the terminal with the "--no-sandbox" option .. Close ALL web browser instances and open a single instance of Chromium with this command:
Code: [Select]
chromium-browser --no-sandbox
Does that one work OK ?

Run the commands in a terminal

You can open a terminal either with the keyboard combo Ctrl+Alt+T

or from:-
menu > Accessories > Terminal

"for emergencies" ?

Heh, you don't hear that much .. I'll keep a copy of Windows around whilst using Linux .. "for emergencies"  :D

We can but try the monitor thingy.

Ahh well theres always something holding me back hehe, how does Crossover handle DirectX? possible at all

Same way as WINE I guess .. they try to implement an old microsoft version of directx directly in the compatibility layer, but IIRC it can be a bit of a pain.
(or at least it was the last time I used WINE .. things may have moved on since then though).

Nothing like native I'm afraid .. and probably never will be.

Just dual boot if you can't do without the Windows stuff .. but I'll bet you could get by without them if you "really" wanted to .. I'm willing to bet you'd only miss them for a month or so.

Glad you got it working :)

Please let us know about functionality .. it might help someone in Peppermint 5.

IIRC, a vm is rubbish for gaming.

Most games use directx to directly access the hardware .. this would be impossible in a VM

If you want to run Windows software .. run it natively on metal.

But my solution would be .. if it's not Linux native, find something that is ;)

Windows users don't buy a Mac to run the occasional OS X only app .. they use what's natively available ;)

Can't really help with the ia32-libs thing until Peppermint 5 is released .. but once you get those installed, the rest should be the same.

[EDIT]

If I get the chance I'll look into the 14.04 ia32-libs issue in Lubuntu 14.04 later tonight .. but no promises, this is after all the "Peppermint" forum ;)

@ Gunterw

Can you describe the "crash", and what you're doing when it occurs .. I'm trying to find out if it's flash related, or a more general thing.

With Chromium open, can you also post the output from these 2 commands (run in a terminal):
Code: [Select]
df -h
and
Code: [Select]
free -m

Btw, whats the real difference between SSB in Chromium and if i use Tools-Add program shortcut in Chrome  ???

Finer grained control over where the shortcut is placed in the menu, and icon selection. ;)

My instructions above should work for your version

in fact if the .deb you have is called "gp6-full-linux-r11621.deb", follow them verbatim  .. I'd already adjusted them for your package name :)

the link you pointed to goes on to point to a script that does the same as my instructions .. but you learn nothing from a script and if it fails it may not give a clue as to where/why

Your call .. use whichever method/instructions suit you ;)
