First one should be fixed by installing numlockx
Code: [Select]
sudo apt install numlockx
second issue cannot be solved .. pcmanfm (the file manager and what controls the desktop) has no facility for having a Trash on the desktop.

Personally I don't think that's where it belongs anyway .. it makes more sense to have it in the file manager, after all putting anything in Trash or emptying it is FILE MANAGEMENT ;)

Even folowing the "office" metaphore, the Trash can doesn't belong on the desktop, more the floor ;)

You'll soon get used to its location in the file manager, and will wonder why it was ever on the desktop to begin with.

Are you running out of RAM ?

Remember a live environment is loading EVERYTHING into RAM and has no swapfile.

Keep running:
Code: [Select]
free -m
and see if you're running low on available memory during your average use.

Who said anything about scripting ?

if you open one of the jpg's in gimp .. then export it again as a jpg .. can imagemagick now convert it ?

Can you upload one of your jpg's somewhere so I can test it with imagemagick's convert .. to see if it's only your setup
(PM me a link if you don't want it public)

Just the fact that you have an SSD doesn't necessarily mean anything on its own....

I have an SSD on the Acer Aspire One zg5 .. and as it's an IDE SSD it's slower than the HDD model :(

I'm not a coder as such, but I gather Eclipse has s/ftp for online editing .. and/or there are plugins available for Sublime Text

What do you want to do .. remove dolphin from the menu, or install it and try to get it working ?

GIMP can batch process .. but if gimp can read them and you're more comfortable with imagemajick, maybe all the batch processing we'd need to apply in gimp is to re-export them :)

OK, doesn't look like the b43 driver module is getting loaded at bootup, so let's add it to the "modules" file which should tell the system to load it.

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/modules
when the file opens, add a single new line at the bottom that reads:-

b43

SAVE the file and exit gedit.

Reboot to test.

Before we start messing with the chromium configs .. Why not try Google Chrome instead

https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/

Get the .deb version for your architecture (32bit or 4bit), then just double click it to install

In that case, why not try installing the GIMP and see if that can open them .. if it can, resave them from the GIMP

The files are corrupt (probably on a dying SDcard ?) .. use photorec to recover them from the SDcard.

If you want a GUI for photorec .. install QPhotoRec with these commands:
Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/qphotorec
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/qphotorec
then
Code: [Select]
wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/crunchyiconthem/files/QPhotoRec/qphotorec_1.0_all.deb
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg -i qphotorec_1.0_all.deb
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt install -f
You'll now find QPhotorec at
menu > System Tools > QPhotoRec

Now see this from step 5 onwards:

I must add I haven't tried QPhotoRec myself.
