You're going to need to remove "quiet splash" from the kernel boot line and hopefully it'll give us a clue where booting is failing.

If you don't know how to do this, just ask :)

Be VERY careful with the dd syntax .. as I said before, if you get it wrong dd will happily overwrite your hard drive with ZERO warning ;)

There's a reason dd is known as "data destroyer" .. it's an immensely powerful tool, but VERY unforgiving.

Easiest ways to find a flashplugin...

Update the mlocate database with
Code: [Select]
sudo updatedb
then search for anything with "flashplayer.so" in its name
Code: [Select]
locate flashplayer.so

libflashplayer.so = Adobe Flash Player
libpepflashplayer.so = Pepperflash

or just going to
chrome://plugins
in either chrome or chromium .. then clicking the "+" next to "details" will also show you if it's using a flashplayer, and the npath to it ;)

OK, let's just remove the wl driver altogether:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt purge bcmwl-kernel-source dkms ap-hotspot hostapd, dnsmasq, iw
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe -r wl
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe b43
wireless work now without the ethernet adapter ?

Highlighting of the menu button is taken care of by editing
Code: [Select]
gedit ~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels/panel
and changing (or adding) the "tintcolor" line in this section
Code: [Select]
Plugin {
    type = menu
    Config {
        image=/usr/share/peppermint/images/menu-five.png
        tintcolor=#000000
        system {
        }
Personally I set mine to "tintcolor=111111" which makes the menu button have a slight white glow when mouse overed.

dd is a command line utility, and one you should be VERY careful with .. get the syntax wrong and it will happily overwrite your hard drive, so I'm a a bit wary about offering it as the solution until we're 100% sure the issue is with the LiveUSB creator application.

May  be worth trying unetbootin first.

Install unetbootin in Mint with:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install unetbootin
Unetbootin should now be in your menu somewhere (probably under System Tools) .. try using that to write the peppermint ISO to the USB stick.

Have you removed all the stuff that went on with ap-hotspot
Code: [Select]
sudo apt purge ap-hotspot hostapd, dnsmasq, iw
if that doesn't help .. what happens if you go back to the b43 driver:
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe -r wl
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe b43
does wireless work now without the ethernet cable plugged in?

Be aware that won't survive a reboot but if it works we can make it permanent.

New Users / Re: Guayadeque missing plugins(unable to fix)
« on: July 06, 2014, 09:10:24 pm »
It's an upstream issue, so not much we can do about it

MPlayer (Media Player) which you also have by default can play WMA .. so WMA was covered, just not all in one player ;)

Light Locker actually seems good at what it does .. but it can catch you out if you're not aware of it ;)

No, non of those will install gstreamer-ffmpeg .. they just mention "gstreamer" and "ffmpeg" in their descriptions.

Seriously .. choose another media player, or convert your wma files to mp3 ;)

I could be wrong here, but I doubt if you'll fix this...

From what I gather it needs gstreamer-ffmpeg which seems to have been dropped from 14.04  :-\

You'd be better off just installing VLC and using that as your media player .. VLC can play just about everyting.
Code: [Select]
sudo apt install vlc

New Users / Re: Customised Colour Scheme
« on: July 06, 2014, 05:24:27 pm »
Google the term

lxappearance custom colors don't save

or

lxappearance custom colors don't stick

and you'll see this is a long running bug (at least 2010) // and it's unlikely to ever get fixed .. luckily Peppermint is slowly moving away from LXDE anyway.

Currently the only way would be to manually edit the themes .gtkrc-2.0 file :(
Usually easier to just find a theme you like online, and install it.
