Installation / Re: Lenovo Ideapad 110 Will not boot Peppermint 10
« on: November 11, 2019, 08:41:10 pm »
See if this helps:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2350394
(I know that's for Ubuntu, but Peppermint is based on Ubuntu so the procedure should be the same)

Networking / Re: wifi is not working after installation
« on: November 11, 2019, 08:32:01 pm »
UPD: after reboot it connect to WiFi automatically and work well. But if I disconnect from one network and try connect to another - it don't connect. Even if I try connect to the same network - it don't connect anyway.

Right-click the network manager icon (by the clock) .. select 'Edit Connection'

Delete ALL WiFi profiles in network manager .. by highlighting them, then clicking the [-] button

when you have no WiFi profiles left, close network manager.

Then left-click the network manager icon (by the clock) and select your network.

If you have an problems doing that .. post the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections

Software & Applications / Re: [SOLVED] Desktop preferences won't open
« on: November 11, 2019, 07:55:32 pm »
Is there a way to get rid of "desktop prefs" from the menu?

YES .. make sure you're booted into the 'Peppermint' session, and you're using nemo-desktop to control the desktop (as it does by default).

I repeat .. "Desktop Preferences" is NOT a default option in Pep10 (and wouldn't be there if you were using the default nemo-desktop to control the desktop .. we haven't used pcmanfm/openbox since Pep5 which is where that option comes from), so somehow you've broken things .. possibly by keeping a previous /home partition.
(I'm not making this up .. I created Pep6/7/8/9/10)

Did you keep a /home partition from another distro (or previous Peppermint version) ?

and what's the contents of:
Code: [Select]
xed ~/.config/lxsession/Peppermint/desktop.conf
and the output from:
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep nemo
and
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep pcmanfm
and
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep -i lxde
and
Code: [Select]
ls /usr/share/xsessions

FYI, this is what the desktop right-click context menu SHOULD look like if nemo-desktop is controlling the desktop:-

Selecting 'Customise' allows you to adjust icon size, spacing, snap to grid, etc. as well as change other desktop settings such as add/remove icons like 'Home' 'Trash' etc.

Glad to hear it shaggysi0, welcome to Peppermint and the forum :)

Turn off desktop effects

Menu > Settings > Peppermint Control Center

Select the 'Desktop Effects' tab.

Remove the tick from 'Enable desktop effects'

Did that help ?

New Users / Re: Disable touchpad while typing
« on: November 11, 2019, 04:25:40 pm »
Okay there **is** a hidden GUI for this,, the reason it's hidden is some other settings in the dialog may interfere with other parts of Peppermint .. and this functionality will eventually get added to the Peppermint Control Center.

Anyway, I'm about to give you a command to open the utility, but please ONLY change the touchpad setting .. nothing else.

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
xfce4-mouse-settings
Now on the 'Devices' tab (at the top), half way down you'll see a 'Touchpad' tab, select that.

Now you can check/tick "Disable touchpad whilst typing" .. and set the 'Duration' the keyboard stays inactive.

WARNING:- Don't mess with other settings in there.

New Users / Re: LIghtDM: How do I change the deault window manager?
« on: November 11, 2019, 01:16:29 pm »
wm2 is a window manager, not a session manager, so won't be offered as an available session at the login screen.

To use wm2 (instead of xfwm4) as the window manager, you'd need to start:-

Menu > Settings > Default applications for LXSession

select the "Core Applications" tab

then change:-

Windows Manager: xfwm4

to:-

Windows Manager: wm2

then log off and on again

'"desktop preferences" shouldn't have even been an option on the Pep10 desktop .. did you keep a /home prtition from a previous LXDE install ?

YES, Nemo gives you far more control over desktop icon sizes and positions than either pcmanfm or xfdesktop
(one of the reasons we use it, along with better context menus, script handling, and nemo action scripts)

You still on Pep5 ?

Not only is that no longer supported, but I can't even remember which desktop it used.
Running Peppermint 10 now. My bad.

Well you've seriously broken things if you're running Pep10 .. that's a PCManFM dialog, where we use nemo-desktop to control the desktop.
(have done since Pep6)

xfdesktop isn't default either .. that's the Xfce desktop manager (which IMHO is nowhere near as good as nemo).

Let me know if you'd like to try fix things.

« on: November 11, 2019, 11:50:36 am »
What menu's ?

If you mean a menu-bar, this can't be done in sakura .. all options are available via the right-click.

If you want a menu-bar you'd have to use a different terminal emulator (such as xfce4-terminal).

Have you still got PCManFM (aka. File Manager) controlling the desktop:
