What are you running Peppermint on? / Re: Since October 2014..
« on: March 02, 2016, 02:37:11 pm »
I will get round to installing PM6 on the G60 at some point.
Yup and even if all the telemetry was neutered, ms would probably deactivate the offending windows 10 and render the OS useless.
OS as a service is not a good idea..ms has shot itself in the foot
<sorry, rant over> back on topic..

PM5 is still rock solid on my Acer Aspire One 533.  ;D
This little netbook and distro combo has saved my bacon a few times when Microsoft Windows is concerned. (as well as the PM5 Live installation USB)

Tried installing PM5 and PM6 on an old HPG60 lappy but the Atheros AR5007 wifi was giving me a headache and never resolved it, so stuck to Win 7.
Having said that, PM5 or PM6 was miles quicker than windows 7 and would love to get this wifi issue sorted.. :-\

Hi all, it's been a while since I last posted, so much so, I had to reactivate my forum account  :o

Does this DROWN affect peppermint in any way or is it website servers only?
Will this be updated soon?
Seems to be critical along the same lines as Heartbleed a few years ago.

SSL TLS1.2 data can be intercepted whilst encrypted en-route to server/s from my understanding.

Is Docker within peppermint OS 5? as it seems to be in ubuntu 14.04

If it is, there seems to be 2  security issues that needs addressed..

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/11/25/docker_vulnerabilities/

Should we update manually or wait for ubuntu?

Hi and Welcome Brian,

I found this site for improving system responsiveness if it helps..

https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/lubuntu

I must admit, it did make a difference using most of these tips after initial installation of P5  ;)

The above theme was adapted and edited using the following:

Snowbird interface theme.

Mac4Lin icon theme: with name edited icons which were replaced with Devian Art icons to replicate 'Yosemite' look
(had to search on-line for them and insert individually, took ages)

Docky.

Config editor to change Docky ;-)

Helvetica font pack (search on-line)

Yosemite background (search on-line)

Thanks to all the contibutors who have uploaded these files, you know who you are.

Have tried, Opera, Safari, Chromium, Midori, Google Chrome, IE 5/6/7/8/9/10 [due to being part of the OS, bad move Bill G]  :D
and always fell back on my safety net of Mozilla Firefox (my choice due to experience and knowledge of this browser since approx 2000 the early days)

AndyInMokum, thanks that's done the trick  :)

Ah, so LXPanel doesn't support individual preferences for either/both text or icons separately.
I must have been thinking of the xfce panel manager from the past which can do this.

cool, thanks

Nice, I like the darker minimalist theme with the red.
The less screen distractions the better, other than user icons to give focus.  ;D
