Advanced Topics / Lock screen [SOLVED]
« on: September 06, 2016, 09:23:54 am »
Hope this is in the correct section..

My lock screen seems to have defaulted to a different style of lock screen?! (boring one)  :(

Was happy with the blurred screen with the circular motif in the center where you just typed the password in, but that isn't available now.
I thing it was the default PM7 lock screen but, not sure.

How can I retrieve this, and how do I go about it?
Thanks in advance..Again!

« on: September 04, 2016, 10:21:18 am »
Greetings, in need of assistance regarding  a sound issue I'm having on PM7 32bit on my laptop.

All the sound on the system works as it should except, when I set the volume lower and either log off or shutdown/ restart, the volume is at 100%.

How do I go about fixing this?

I'm running out of pants!  :D

Below is the spec of my old 2009 laptop which had Windows Vista/ Windows 7 HP and Windows 10 Home (for a short while) tried PM5 & PM6 but ran into wi-fi issues.
Must say, it was a flawless installation and everything works as intended.
No nvidia proprietary drivers on as it slowed down the boot time.

Software & Applications / PM7 icons [SOLVED]
« on: July 09, 2016, 04:20:57 am »
Firstly, congratulations on the BEST ever Peppermint Distro PM7, well impressed!  :)
Obviously hard work by the 'Team' is being appreciated and promoted where it belongs.
Rated hits number 12 on Distrowatch over the last 30 days!

I have a question regarding icons/ system icon changing.
Previously on PM5, I could right click menu items and change icons for system and applications, it doesn't seem possible to do this now  :(
Is there a way to do this?
Reason I ask is, I have my own custom icons that I am used to using in PM5 and wish to use in PM7.

yes, I have icon OCD and prefer uniform icon sets across my network  ;D

help appreciated..

Networking / USB2 TP-Link TL-WN275N/ Realtek Wifi dropping
« on: March 13, 2016, 05:52:38 am »
Ok, had some time to upgrade my test Windows 10 laptop (HP-G60 120-EM) to Peppermint 5 this weekend. (prefer 5 over 6)
I seem to have a dropping WiFi connection on my USB2 b/g/n Realtek RTL8188CUS (TP-Link TL-WN275N) wifi adaptor.
Have tried changing the wifi channel on the router to no avail (currently on channel 6, less noise/ traffic)
The onboard wifi (Atheros AR5007 b/g) has given up for now and so have I (faster connection using the USB wifi)

Can anyone help with this issue as I'm sick of disconnecting and re-connecting the wifi already.  :(
(just done it again whilst typing) >:(

Everything went flawlessly on my Acer Aspire One  ;) Hope someone can help..

What are you running Peppermint on? / Since October 2014..
« on: March 01, 2016, 03:06:26 pm »
PM5 is still rock solid on my Acer Aspire One 533.  ;D
This little netbook and distro combo has saved my bacon a few times when Microsoft Windows is concerned. (as well as the PM5 Live installation USB)

Tried installing PM5 and PM6 on an old HPG60 lappy but the Atheros AR5007 wifi was giving me a headache and never resolved it, so stuck to Win 7.
Having said that, PM5 or PM6 was miles quicker than windows 7 and would love to get this wifi issue sorted.. :-\

Advanced Topics / openSSL DROWN vulnerability/ exploit
« on: March 01, 2016, 02:33:31 pm »
Hi all, it's been a while since I last posted, so much so, I had to reactivate my forum account  :o

Does this DROWN affect peppermint in any way or is it website servers only?
Will this be updated soon?
Seems to be critical along the same lines as Heartbleed a few years ago.

SSL TLS1.2 data can be intercepted whilst encrypted en-route to server/s from my understanding.

Is Docker within peppermint OS 5? as it seems to be in ubuntu 14.04

If it is, there seems to be 2  security issues that needs addressed..

Should we update manually or wait for ubuntu?

Advanced Topics / Panel preference tweaks [SOLVED]
« on: October 26, 2014, 03:14:02 pm »
Hi all, In need of 'experienced assistance.'

1. Is there any way to add a search facility to the panel? I can't seem to find it in the 'Panel Preferences' [Advanced] tab.

2. Also, Is there a tweak to show the function 'name' opposed to the icon for the panel item?
I seem to remember an option to do this but, it may have been in an xfce distro used in the past.. :-\

Help would be sincerely appreciated  :)

What are you running Peppermint on? / Acer AO533 revived
« on: October 25, 2014, 05:44:06 pm »
Hi folks,

This Acer AO533 came with Windows 7 starter which lasted about 6 months from new before I eventually ditched it. (even with a 2Gb DDR3 RAM upgrade it was slow)

Having experimented /tried various distro's as a linux newbie, Zorin, Linux Mint Xfce (Maya), Xubuntu, Pear OS 7 & 8 and Elementary OS to name a few over the last two years, I have happily anchored peppermint 5 to my Acer AO533.

To speed things up more,I have upgraded this AO533 with a Sandisk SSD and Peppermint 5 flies on this with the btrfs (file system)
Around 12-15 seconds to login screen from cold boot and 3 seconds to! (having tweaked and optimised things for the SSD.)
Instead of Chromium, I opted for Mozilla Firefox as a browser (due to having 15 years experience with it) purely for the advantages of tweaks, plug-ins and config settings for security and optimisations.

I love the speed and simplicity of this distro without too many bells and whistles.

Who says old net-books are dead?  ;)
