Software & Applications / Making Grub in dual-boot more beautiful (solved)
« on: September 26, 2014, 01:07:23 pm »
Hi,

I am having a dual boott system (Win/p5). I just wish the splashpage of choosing OS to be a bit more beautiful and simple and if possibly also with a touch screen where I could choose either win or P5...

Is that possible?

Cheers. Thanks. Well. I kind of tried differnt problems solving strategies (I am a bit of restless). As you say I tried to install P5 more or less directly after I posted the above... the P5 installer recognised Windows 7 at this time.Annoying. I did install P5. Great. But then when logging into win7 it went balck. totally black. Tried a few times. But Win7 went black. P5 worked fine. Then I installed the video-driver in win7 and installed P5 again.  Also I manually did partitione the swapfile and root partition. Now after one hour it works. I am really happy.

PCNetSpec - I am sooo impressed of your dedication! All the best. I am stubborn so I just kind of try things myself. But without the backlogg of your competence I might not dared to do all my tests.
Thanks.

Hi,

Seems that my different tries messed up the system. I decided to install P5 as first system, and will have a go at installing win7 in VirtualBox. I will do this during this weekend and post my experience here.

I have the same problem.
When installing Peppermint 5 under windows 7 it does not show up.
Please, PCnetspec,  tell me how to install under MSDOSpartition rather that what just is the usual install form the win-DVD

Thanks. I did all that today.
But... The peppermint installer did not recognize the windows install at all. I have tried a few fix presented on the net but that did not work at all. I guess I have to test virtualbox or simply stick with peppermint or windows :-(
I just saw another person having the same with peppermint not recognizing win7 or 8. You suggested MSDOS partition. If you would please advice I would be very obliged.

Best

Henrik

Installation / Dualboot Win8.1 and Peppermint5 [abandond]
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:39:06 am »
Hi,
I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon running Win8.1 and have tried to install peppermint 5. As the computer is for my work I am a bit worried of doing to much out of my knowledge. However, similar to others it will not dual boot. I have partionend a part for peppermint5. I have been able to change in BIOS (legacy) and then that worked in startin peppermint. However then I have to go into BIOS and change between Legacy and Uefi(sp?) or something. In legacy mode win will not start (if chosen in grub) and with Uefi--mode Windows will start directly.

Is there any quick fix or easy way to actually make a dual boot without doing to much stuff to the computer (and our admins will be angry). I have full administrative rights...

New Users / Running Win8.1 using Virtualbox under peppermint5[Solved]
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:28:52 am »
Hi,
I Wonder if anyone has experience of running Windows 8.1 under Peppermint 5 using virtualbox.
I have had problems installing peppermint as dual boot.
Of course I could use peppermint under windows but would like it the other way around.
Any experiences?

I mainly have to use MS office under Windows.

/Henrik
