Software & Applications / Re: Financial program Skrooge
« on: October 13, 2019, 08:23:43 am »
That's a Qt app so would bring in a TON of Qt dependencies in Peppermint (which generally comes with just the Gtk framework pre-installed and therefore apps) .. Qt apps will work in Peppermint but they'll need to pull in all the Qt framework libs too (as they're not installed by default).

Personally I use
https://www.manager.io/free-accounting-software
but even this isn't without it's problems as (IIRC) it uses mono. It's also probably aimed more at business accounting rather than home financial planning.

If Scrooge looks like what you want, and you don't mind the disk space used by the ton of Qt dependencies that'll get pulled in, then just use it (or at least try it) ;)

SOME versions of Quicken will work in WINE .. so it depends which version you have (?)
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=107
(my advice would be to only consider versions flagged as Platinum)

And sure, any would work in a Window.s VM.

Well l have been playing with the Skrooge app and managed to load the most current vers 2.20 onto my wifes Lenovo 2 loaded with Peppermint 10. I had loaded it onto my Lenovo 2 Pro that is running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon   but for some reason could only load vers 2.15.0 . Having contacted the program writer at KDE l explained what was happening and we tried  this
sudo apt remove skrooge*
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:s-mankowski/ppa-kf5
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install skrooge-kf5

after attempting this several times l found l was still unable to progress to the newer 2.20.0 version. I sent him a screen shot of my Terminal and he informed me that l would not be able to upgrade as l was running Xenial...his reply...
On your system (based on xenial), you can have only 2.15.0 (not 2.20.0).
So, keep this version.

So this begged the question that l am putting to you. What is Peppermint running if not Xenial that allows it to be loaded onto Peppermint (very nicely BTW). And excuse my being a Nooby but how do l find this out on the computer? as l was unable to read thru the documentation and find out.

No where near the knowledge of others trying to help but l experienced a similar situation while trying to change keyboard "country".
Being a Canadian l was wanting to change the little American Flag in the bottom right corner that signify s the keyboard layout. Long story short..there is no Canadian flag so l opted for the flag of Great Britain but the key pad changed and whenever l pressed " @" l typed  something else..can't recall now what..but it was driving me crazy when entering an email address...switched back to the USA flag and back to normal.

Oh it is a tattered web we find ourselves in.... I did actually save the Netflix Chat because l could not believe what he/she had said. I had my wifes and my own laptops with me at the time, one (my wifes) loaded with Peppermint and runs Netflix flawlessly and mine with Mint again..flawless.
I had issues with the Firefox so thought l may unload and reinstall a newer version but it was installed fresh from the Peppermint 10 ISO disc so it must be current ,but being new to firefox myself ,l could not discover which version was on my Brothers desktop. I did however enable the DRM but it still did not work...but now l think of it maybe l should have rebooted after changing the setting???HHMMMmmm.
I then tried Chrominium and that was totally crazy. The other option being Chrome was not immediately available as my Brother had no recollection as to his password to log into Google  so we had to request a password reset and that apparently is a 3 to 5 day wait so they can verify..there is a lesson there...another option was to open with Facebook but in order to access that he again needed his Google email access.
At present we are awaiting Google....before he can continue with the installation of his information allowing access and he will have to be content with Youtube for entertainment.
Anyhow friends ,thanks for you contributions and l am happy to say l am becoming more comfortable with Linux and learning a lot  on the journey. ...OH...LOOK l am now rated Karma 1  8)

Thanks all!
Murrymint put me in the ballpark and found the right switches!
it did take a few seconds for it to kick in though unlike my other computer that switches immediately.
Now l need to re adjust the the screens resolution as when l plug in the HDMI l loose the tool bar at the bottom of the screen...to get the bar back l have to unplug the hdmi.

I have connected my Lenovo 2 Yoga to the TV via the HDMI cord and have found my way around the display settings so the image is displayed on both the TV and Computer monitor though l have the display working fine on the tv, the laptop display is having to to have a different resolution so as not to have it too large.
The issue and reason for this post though is getting the sound to function on the TV. It works on the computer but somehow not as dramatic as on the big screen tv. On my other laptop l am running a Linux Mint Cinnamon and l can just go to "Sound" and set it to the source l need, but l can't seem to find the "switch " on Peppermint.
