Software & Applications / Upgrading to Peppermint 10 respin (SOLVED)
« on: February 03, 2020, 03:17:02 pm »
OK this will be my first upgrade when l step up from 10 to 10 respin...what should l expect regarding my existing files...will it be necessary to save and transfer or will the upgrade give me an option to maintain everything l currently have?
Back up is a no brainer but just thought everything may just be transferred seeing as it is a respin and not a complete OS change.

Advanced Topics / Flying with your Laptop (SOLVED)
« on: February 03, 2020, 06:44:22 am »
I find it necessary to make a trip next week involving air travel and had been reading over what and what not may be brought onto an aircraft.
I have had discussions recently on other part of the forum regarding Power management so the topic of batteries had come up as well as makes and models and how batteries are accessed.
Apparently if your equipment has Lithium batteries and your intention was to place it in your checked baggage, it is mandated that the batteries be removed and carried with you into the cabin.
Now l can only speak to the Lenovo Laptops l have but l am certain others have internal batteries that to access need a fair bit of work and specific tools.
The purpose of this is to mention that should you be a frequent flyer and want to place your computers in checked baggage the battery access may be a consideration next time you make a purchase.
Saying all that l know most of us would have our computers as carry on but.....just sayin.

Software & Applications / XFce Power Manager
« on: January 12, 2020, 09:43:32 am »
I seem to have an issue with the XFce Power Manager in that it never really allows the battery to be charged beyond 59% and l do not see any way to adjust the settings to allow a full to the machine.

New Users / Issues with Torguard VPN after upgrade of App.
« on: January 11, 2020, 01:57:59 pm »
I have been running Torguard VPN with no issues on 4 different laptops with 4 different OS's 1) is Linux Mint 17.3  2) is Peppermint 10   3) is Windows 8.2 and the 4th is my wife’s running a Windows 10.
Up until Monday last , all Torguard apps were run on Vers.3.96.1 and all ran fine allowing me to access the UK programming l wished to view. I then upgraded all machines with the new Vers 3.97.4 it was then l noticed that the two Windows machines performed as well as before but the two Linux machines will no longer allow me to access the programming and are now displaying pop ups requesting that l update my settings on my Google Chrome or Fire Fox and l do occasionally use either or without issues.
Well l ensured the settings were correctly set and went as far as to clear all cache (multiple times) as sometimes thats what it takes but with no success. I have been in contact with their support (Torguards) since 10 am with no success and they finally said that maybe l should contact a Linux support group.
The VPNs l am using are dedicated and doing l check have confirmed they are showing me as being in the UK, l am able to connect to UK Netflix as well as UK BBC but so far have been unable to re establish programming from web site is not an issue just the streaming of programming . I have searched the forum for any past similar issues with no success. That just about describes where l am just now.

Networking / Re: Accessing WIFI networks ((RESOLVED))
« on: December 24, 2019, 01:47:48 pm »
First off..Merry Christmas to all and thanks to all who have made transitioning smooth...may all have a prosperous new year and the best of health for all.

Now back to my issue..I had set my brother up with Peppermint 10 a few months back and he has been using the computer as his main source of entertainment but a week back he had a wifi modem issue and the provider had him come in to get a new replacement modem but has not been able to reconnect to the internet. Seeing as he is back in Canada and l am in Florida for the winter l am unable to do a hands on repair.
Talking with him on the phone l find he does not have a wifi network showing. When he goes to the menu<all settings< network< network manager<network connections..he is just showing Ethernet and no wifi connections. Now at this point l am not certain as to what we should be looking for and am reaching out to you.
Many Thanks

New Users / Where is the "Sound Selector Switch????" SOLVED
« on: October 08, 2019, 05:56:29 pm »
I have connected my Lenovo 2 Yoga to the TV via the HDMI cord and have found my way around the display settings so the image is displayed on both the TV and Computer monitor though l have the display working fine on the tv, the laptop display is having to to have a different resolution so as not to have it too large.
The issue and reason for this post though is getting the sound to function on the TV. It works on the computer but somehow not as dramatic as on the big screen tv. On my other laptop l am running a Linux Mint Cinnamon and l can just go to "Sound" and set it to the source l need, but l can't seem to find the "switch " on Peppermint.

New Users / ERROR message? SOLVED Sort of
« on: September 24, 2019, 10:06:10 am »
Good day all,
I have an old tower desk top l have been playing with and had decided to load it with LM but it is not capable of handling the OS so l had looked into other distros and came upon PEPPERMINT and it looked very nice.
I just downloaded the latest version (?) and verified it, burned it onto a dvd and attempted to load it. I have tried running live and a full install but am receiving a message on the screen (error?) as follows:
[    3.182299] sis630_smbus 0000:00:02:0: SIS630 compatible bus not detected, module not inserted.

Now this has me totally stumped...l am just an amateur computer geek and relatively new to Linux Mint

There is nothing on this computer worth salvaging so l can do whatever it needs to try to get it up and has Pentium 4 , 2.66Ghz CPU , 8kb with 512 kb ram.
