General Discussion / Re: Network indicator

What happens if you open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
nm-connection-editor

I was told that I didn't have connection-editor-gnome installed, but it gave instructions how to do so. I installed it, an Voila, my indictor is back!

Are you able to connect to the internet at all on this PC ?

I was, but only to connections that I had used previously. Now I can see all networks in my area. All good now. Thanks!

There was an applet indicator  on the panel when I installed P8. It seems to have since disappeared.
BTW, when I go to Peppermint Settings > Network > Network Manager and click, nothing opens.

I travel from time to time and take my netbook (w/P8). How do I show the network indicator on my panel? Sometimes opening a browser will take me to a login page, but sometimes not.

Possible answer to your first problem (if you don't mind giving up some of your security) -
Change your password to something really simple to enter (as few characters as possible, perhaps consecutive keys).
You'll still have to enter a password, but it will be easier and less time consuming.

Networking / Re: USB Wifi compatability.

Gotta be somewhere 15 minutes ago, but quickly...

Why do you think your Dell can't be upgraded?

Took it to a repair shop. The "repairman" said he couldn't get the RAM necessary. On top of that, the tower has a lock that I do not have the key to.
The "repairman" tried to sell us a custom-built computer. The more I think about it , the more I think he may have been scamming us.

have you tried running Peppermint from a USB  and using the USB wifi adapter? I would think if it works that way it should work even better installed.

Worth a shot. Will let you know.

I hope this is the right topic. We have a Dell Optiplex 780 tower. It was refurbished when we bought it. It has only 2 gigs of RAM. It apparently cannot be upgraded. I am considering setting it up in our guest bedroom. I would remove Windows 10 and install Peppermint, to get better performance from the 2 gigs. The catch - it has no internal wifi. I have been using a USB wifi device. Will Peppermint recognize the device? If I cannot get wifi I'll have to stick to Windows.

Software & Applications / Re: Pop Peeper Links

I think the problem is in Pop Peeper itself. Most , but not all of it's functions work thru Wine. I tried a stand-alone browser with an exe extension.....no joy.
A PITA workaround - I cut the URL from Wine Internet Explorer and paste into the URL bar of Chromium. I guess that's my only solution.

I have Chromium on my P8 Respin. Biut I don't know what the initiation file is or where to find it. In other words, the exe - equivalent.

Software & Applications / Pop Peeper Links

I am running Pop Peeper thru Wine. By default, it opens links in "Wine Windows Explorer".   WWE is not accepted by some sites. There is an option to change to an external browser, but I'm assuming it expects an exe file. If I want links to open in Chromium, where do I find it's exe equivalent?

...

Personally I'd say use the money on a second-hand but well built laptop .. Dell E series maybe.

[EDIT]

Okay Dell, I recommend these things that often now I reckon I deserve a commission :))

I've had good experience with Dell. I'll probably go that route.
