OK,I don't know about the sd card thing, but i have to put my 2 bits worth in about the SSD thing.I have 2-240 gb SSDs that date back to the time when that was the biggest size us mere mortals could afford. They have both been in more distro-hopping computers than I can remember, and both still work fine.I took no special precautions;just format and install. It is my standard method of speeding up cheap used computers. If I need more storage for music or whatever,I throw in a 1 or 2 TB that off my chest.I'll go back to sleep now.

New Users / webcam and microphone

Just got to wondering:this laptop has a built in webcam and,I presume, microphone. So far I have'nt seen any thing in Peppermint 9 that would allow me to disable these two features, since I never use them.I've been searching thru the menu, but have't seen these settings so far.Computer is a Dell Latitude i5 dual core.

OS agnostic topic:I am using a 2 TB external HDD,Ext4,to back up data.Is there a utility that will check the integrity of the backup files, especially the ones that have never been accessed?I can use my peppermint laptop to do this, but my Mint tower would be a lot faster.I have over a TB of backup files.

Just installed Peppermint 9 on my dell dual core laptop after running Ubuntu 18.04LTS on it for several months(bought it used around Christmas).Definately snappier than Ubuntu.Minimal install worked fine.Had to muck about to get Wifi working;probably pilot error.Works fine now.In fact I seem to get a stronger signal now.Probably time to clean glasses. After using Mint on the tower for a while,I figured it was time to try something flashier than vanilla Ubuntu on the laptop.Lets hope Canonical isnt taken over by Microsoft, making all these nifty derivative distro scramble.

No,cavey,I went cold turkey and have used nothing but Linux since June '16.(except for my Android phone)I have had a recurring issue regarding dual monitors.I think it may have to do with the fact that my second monitor is actually a TV(insignia 32 in)Ubuntu seems to be the only distro that will allow me to position the second monitor on the left side of the main monitor.Since the TV/second monitor is bolted to the wall, this is a problem.I have had this issue on two different computers so far.I'll see if the i7 tower does the same thing.

8)Hi.Just installed peppermint 7 alongside Ubuntu 17.04 on my old HP elitebook.Sorry ,I dont know how to get the hardware info from the terminal to this forum. It is a dual core Elitebook with a new SSD installed as well as a 1TB 5400 rpm data drive. The only issue I had was that it was neccessary to disconnect the data drive in order the get the installer to see the SSD.After that,it installed flawlessly, automatically partitioning the SSD into two equal halves, plus swap.Since I have been using Ubuntu for almost a year,I am having some trouble finding stuff on this Windows-ish distro!!!The main reason I want to try Peppermint is to Convince my brother to ditch Windows when I visit him in a couple of months. So far everything works fine, with the help of three different youtubers.Very helpful.
