General Discussion / Re: Welcome to the new Forum!

i went back to the old forum and discovered i'd made 652 posts there... too bad we can't import those numbers ;~)
I briefly looked for a simple way to import user accounts but it ended up being more hassle and effort than I really cared to contribute. Not trying to be lazy or anything, I just have a lot of things going on. Anyway, it required exporting the database, truncating a ton of tables, scrubbing out the spam accounts, and a bunch more stuff. Ultimately I figured it would be better in the long run to just leave everything.

Don't they just magically appear on the internet and you download them when you need them?  ;D
Hehehe... As far as I'm typically concerned, yes.

Alright, I see the button group that is smushed to the right a bit. I'll get on that.

And yes, color varies dramatically between monitors. On my desktop where I do my photo processing, I have two IPS display LG monitors and I have to use an external color calibrator once a month in order to keep them not just accurate between each other, but as close to actual color as possible. This is a huge deal when doing any sort of photo printing. Most notably almost all monitors (at least the reasonably priced ones) have the color temperature set too cool by default. I should probably see if there's any support for that color calibrator in Linux. The only time I ever boot my desktop into Linux is to play Minecraft as it's otherwise a dedicated photo processing machine (i.e. lots of Adobe, DxO, and Topaz Labs software).

I think I've got the buttons about to where they should be. Let me know if there are any other hurdles.

I'm working on the buttons. I had an 11:00 meeting so I didn't quite get everything done as soon as I'd hoped. Also, I think whoever did the CSS for the buttons may have been drunk or something when they wrote it.

Per a few requests I've started messing with the forum CSS ("cascading style sheets" for those who don't know) in order to make it less harsh on the eyes. It was previously quite bright so I've tried to tone it down a notch. Please give me some feedback and let me know if there are any elements that need fixing. For example, some of the buttons don't show up as well right now so I'm going to work on those next.

Since this isn't really a support topic, I'm marking it as such.

I (or one of the other team members) need to get back with you with the specifics as I'm not in front of a Peppermint machine at the moment, but the application is called peppermint-logout and is set to not display by default, thus making it a bit difficult to add it back to the menu if it gets deleted. If you add a launcher for another application, you can edit the panel configuration manually and get it back. More details (hopefully) soon.

Also, the "t" has been modified to come straight down. Earlier versions of the logo have the "t" with a curve at the bottom.

Well this topic took a pretty hard left.  ;)

@dsplayname: Congrats on the new restaurant!!! Also, hope the recovery is quick and painless.

...maybe I am just lucky and have all the machines that don't work...  LOL   ;)
This is a distinct possibility.  ;)

Peppermint Three is based on 12.04 and doesn't do it.

Peppermint Four is based on 13.04 and does exhibit this as far as I've tested.

Either way, it's a boot splash so we're not tripping over ourselves trying to come up with a solution. I think most people are filing it as a quirk rather than a bug.

Just thought I'd ask to see what everyone is working on at the moment.

Personally, I'm re-exploring Django, but this time with Twitter's Bootstrap framework for the frontend just to see what I can put together. I made a relatively simple blogging platform tonight just to see what it would look like. I think I'm going to keep on experimenting for a while as I quite enjoy Django development and I'm loving Bootstrap's short design time and quick deployment.

EDIT: Yes I'm using Ubuntu right now. I tend to always use it the last couple of months before a Peppermint release just to see if there are any particularly good ideas lurking around anywhwere.

If I remember tomorrow, I'll try and screw with the CSS and bring the brightness level down just a touch. The operative statement there is "If I remember tomorrow" which is somewhat debatable at this point.  ;)

what I find funny is other distros the boot screen works, yet on lubuntu i get a black screen till about 5 seconds before the desktop, at which time i get a lubuntu boot screen, then poof its gone, then the desktop is there...

Peppermint Four behaves in much the same way on most of the hardware configurations I've tried. The issue is upstream somewhere but not critical enough that anyone here has made a point to try and track it down.
