When I installed respin i saw a very nice picture as background of "Enjoy peppermint, and blablabla...."

Also I would like to get the one loaded after the shutdown.

So any way to get these two beautiful pictures? I'd like to use them as wallpapers  8)

Software & Applications / youtube issues (SOLVED)
« on: January 05, 2017, 10:13:03 am »
Fresh install of P7 on my netbook. I've got youtube issues: videos are interrupting every 5-10 seconds, sometimes only audio works but the video freezes. I tried the same videos on Dailymotion and they work without any probs.

Also, I've noticed that my cpu doesnt seem to handle youtube videos: Task Manager says cpu 100% when I click on a youtube video (btw also on dailymotion cpu goes 95-98% usage but videos are fine). Ram usage bit less than 50%.

GNU/Linux Discussion / A total noob distro hopping
« on: December 04, 2016, 08:03:32 am »
As a linux enthusiast noob, few days ago I decided to use a spare 4gb laptop to exploring other distros that I thought they had something better than P7. So, here's an overview of my brief journey outside the Peppermint world.

Before than Peppermint:
Lubuntu/Puppy:they look too ugly (imo) to enjoy them - I messed up the installation with Puppy; Lubuntu had big issues I never figure out to solve (example: no audio). I started to think Linux was a broken cheap os only usable from crazy kernel nerds.

Peppermint P7: love at the first sight, never a crash, Android Studio super fast, but Xfce gets bit boring after some time.

After P7:

Manjaro Netbook for my 1gb Acer AspireOne netbook: solid and fast as P7.

Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS: the most good looking distro for my standards. Everything looks beautiful, and the Mate environment keep it as a lightweight solution for 4gb laptop. Huge problem: the laptop is not able to boot on battery power, so if I forget the charger I can't even start working. The error is the same I have in Peppermint booting: radeon_acpi_init Error: Cannot find a backlight controller, though in P7 it's only a warning and theres no problem booting on battery power.
Since this problem was solved on Kernel 4.8, I switched to Ubuntu Mate 16.10 (kernel 8.0.x) - same story, no booting, goodbye Mate.

Fedora 25: the kernel 4.8.6 fixed my booting problem as expected, but my laptop had some problems with  slow wifi, and I didn't like how this distro looks, not mentioning some ugly fonts that I was lazy to change (annoyed by slow Internet).

OpenSuse Leap 42.2: my ram hated kde and I don't understand the point of kde, too many options and stuff I don't need, so I switched to Gnome: system is fast, stable, and after the first day, I got used to Gnome and start loving it. Since kernel is 4.4 I have the backlight warning, but likewise Peppermint it gives no probs on battery power.

So my fav distros are P7 and OpenSUSE.  After having seen a few of these distros I like P7 as an easy-going os for everything I need on my laptop (mobile/web development + net surfing).

Hopefully this review may be interesting for some other noob out there.  :)

Hardware / projector screen (SOLVED)

Today I tried to connect my laptop to a projector screen (fully working, hdmi wire connection) but it didn't work, no signal at all. How can I fix this issue?

GNU/Linux Discussion / advice for Android mirror
« on: November 11, 2016, 10:45:12 am »
Already tried the chrome app Vysor for mirroring my android phone on my P7  laptop, but it doesn't work (black screen, android unavailable bug).

Anyone here knowing reliable applications to display my android screen? Preferably desktop applications.

General Discussion / Always safe to update?
« on: October 22, 2016, 05:30:27 am »
Is it always safe to update Peppermint?

Last time I updated it I saw some update called "linux-image-extra" or something like that, is it something related to kernel and critical to update?

I'm using my 4gb amd  just for programming purposes and when I installed P7 it was a pain to replace the right library to run Android Studio emulators. I finally have the system I never accomplished to build with Windows  (Android Studio too slow and native emulators impossible to run), so I don't want to end up losing the perfect balance I have now.

To sum up, I'd like to know if there's any stability risk associated to updates.

Software & Applications / Light Firefox - wrong font color (SOLVED)
« on: October 19, 2016, 07:04:57 am »
On YouTube (and maybe other websites) search bar,  the font is white on white background --> can't see anything I type in

It happens when I use a dark theme (Dark Peppermint Theme, my favorite)

I'm aware it's not Peppermint fault, I googled a little bit and didn't find any solutions (I've already unchecked "use system colors" from Preferences > Colors")

my os: P7 64bit

Do you know any workaround to fix this issue?

General Discussion / old netbook
« on: October 08, 2016, 04:07:54 am »
Hi everybody,

I have an old netbook (acer aspire one - 32bit - 1gb RAM) running on W7 and I was wondering if P7 might give a new life to my old machine.  Should I install Peppermint or some other distro (not a fan of puppies...) ?

Any suggestions or experience on similar machines is welcomed :)

New Users / audio startup
« on: October 02, 2016, 05:11:22 am »
Every time I start my laptop I get the speakers set at the maximum volume... How can I reduce it at the startup, it's very annoying especially because I always use headphones and I tend to forget they are set to 100%.

Pulse Audio Mixer > Volume Control > All streams: here  I get "LADSPA stream on Built-in audio analog stereo" always set to 100% at the startup, no matter I reset it to lower levels

Software & Applications / How to change Plank theme? (SOLVED)
« on: October 02, 2016, 02:23:57 am »
I open the preferences panel from the terminal (plank --preferences) but no change is applied whatever theme I select (GTK+, Matte, Transparent) - nothing happens even after logging out or restarting the laptop.

New Users / web apps (SOLVED)
« on: August 21, 2016, 01:30:28 am »
Hello everyone,

can't figure out how to open Google Drive and the other web apps from the menu. Nothing happens by clicking on them, it just leaves the menu but the browser won't open the webpage.

I know how to use Ice and it works fine, but  what about all these links to web apps, like in Menu > Office, should I edit something to run them?

My system: Peppermint 7 - 64bit, Chromium as default browser (I removed FF)
