Hi Lew,

in the energy settings on the right side of the panel you can select the presentation mode. That should disable the screen lock.

My first (trivial) thought: Did you check that the session is saved?

That's a great achievement for the usability of the forum. Good job!

Nice to meet you, sotnas78!

There are good reasons, why Peppermint is based on Ubuntu. See this comment by the late and great PCNetSpec:,8793.msg89738.html#msg89738

I have done a fair share of distro hopping myself. Peppermint is probably as good as it gets in the Linux world. ;)

@lliam53: Google (or another search engine) is always a good starting point. Enter the following phrase, and the first four or five results will tell you how to install grub customizer:

Code: [Select]
how to install grub customizer ubuntu
You will also find a lot of reviews and tips for alternatives for a certain task, if you use a search engine. The results (mostly posts from forums, the Ubuntu Wiki etc.) will tell you, if a program can be installed with apt (in most cases) or you need to install a ppa or download a .deb package.

If I want to install a new program for a certain task, I always search Google, not the Software Boutique or Synaptic.

Ah, sorry, it was not in the Ubuntu repositories in 18.04 yet.

You have to add a ppa:

Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer
Then you can refresh the package cache and install it:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt update
sudo apt install grub-customizer

as regards the problem with installing Grub: There is a graphical program for customizing and updating Grub: It is called Grub Customizer and can be installed with:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt install grub-customizer
It gives you feedback, if it was able to save your changes to Grub to the MBR.

P. S.: It requires a ppa. See two postings below.

Hi Lliam,

acpi is probably not installed by default.  You can install it with

Code: [Select]
sudo apt install acpi
I have not tried that script by karnemelk from the Ubuntu Mate-forum. Just give it a try and follow the instructions.

By the way: I am far from being a Linux pro myself, but you can get a lot done with some trial and error. ;)

Hello lliam53,

you can use ACPI (Advanced Configuration & Power Interface) to set which devices are allowed to wake the system.
Maybe this thread from the Ubuntu Mate forum helps:

Best regards,

Thank you very much, Slim. Fatz!

(Just if anyone else is wondering: It seems that Peppermint uses only some essential components from LXDE, namely LXSession and LXAppearance, and that LXQT is not quite as slim as LXDE.)

GNU/Linux Discussion / What's wrong with LXQT?

PCNEtSpec wanted to base the next release of Peppermint on Xubuntu, as Lubuntu 20.04 switches to LXQT.

Why is that? I have not used LXQT yet, but it seems to be a good idea in theory. The reviews are not that bad either, for example:
