I am loving Peppermint 9. It really should be in the top 10 on Distrowatch too! Everything just works, and teething troubles (such as  prnter that misbehave) can often be figured out. But the excellent Peppermint Forum, is an excellent source of information and help otherwise.

Having made the transition from Peppermint 5 thru to 9, the evolution of this distro is just awesome. Keep it up.

This is my desktop. I have ditched the docky's and conky's, and made full use of the excellent ICE utility.

I solved my own issue. I removed the printer using printers, and then re-added using the 'LPD/LPR queue PASSTHRU' option. Everything now prints as it should.

I removed the printer in both "Printers" and "Cups" but no dice..... Still only prints the test page or via libreoffice. I will try a fresh install today, just in case I removed something I shouldn't have.

Yup, The test Page from Printers does print. Libreoffice... anything will print from that.  But the pdf viewer for example .... nada .. does not print. Any web browser, Chrome, Firefox or Opera.... does not print.

Yes this is a recent issue, although I may have just noticed it....!

When I say rejected by the printer.... I open the print queue and the job appears there, It displays "printing" on the printer for a second or two, and then the job is cancelled. I assume by the printer.

It is a really bizarre isuue. I have tried removing the drivers and reinstalling them.

I have an Epson XP-425 printer that's connected to my home network. The only way I can print anything is via libreoffice. None of the other apps or programs can print. The jobs seem to be rejected by the printer. This is the first time I have experienced this. I have the correct driver(s) installed..... any ideas before i reinstall peppermint afresh.

General Discussion / Re: Playonlinux vs Crossover
« on: June 10, 2017, 12:13:36 pm »
I've never ran Crossover, but I run a number of games in POL and straight WINE.  One thing I always do is check the WINE HQ to see if a game will run.  According to this, Galactic Civilizations II runs quite well:

So, you shouldn't need Crossover.  If you want to install the game  in POL and it's not listed, there's an option for that.  I did that with Fallout and Fallout 2 so that I could use a different version of WINE than the POL installer uses, which is the same as the system version.  That's one great thing about POL, you can install games this way and use whatever version of WINE you want.

So, I'd suggest trying one of those options before paying for CCrossover.

Yes Playonlinux, is a nice little program, that works very well with Peppermint. The Virtual Drives, make installation and removal very easy. I have been experimenting with my own scripts, to automate installation of game. I checked WineHQ as you suggested.

So far, I have made a script for Cossacks that works well.

General Discussion / Playonlinux vs Crossover
« on: June 09, 2017, 06:37:30 pm »
Hello All,

I am looking for some advice with regards gaming. I play Stronghold Crusader a lot, This works seemlessly using Playonlinux. I used to play Galactic Civilizations II when I used windows, and would like to use it without diual booting. I notice it works with Crossover.

Anyone know the pros and cons of both?

How easy is it to make a complete ISO of a peppermint install, including software that has been added.  Then it would be easy to install my own flavour of Peppermint *, on my other PC's without the need for manually checking each one.

A 'how to' guide including some software suggestions would be great. I noticed someone on Youtube using SystemBack, but is a backup utility correct for this process?

My desktop. I am yet to add docky, as I have enough eye candy with Alexa

Ice works great with Lichess too.... a few tweaks with the font settings and replacing the new peppermint .png's with the peppermint 6 ones... I still think they are better!! and hey presto!

Opera has had a bit of a facelift of late. Does the job for me.

Peppermint isn't Xfce .. it uses more of a hybrid desktop environment where we try to integrate the best components from quite a few DE's

Very true, and a good collaboration. My personal tastes usually see me replace pyshot/scrot for the XFCE-screenshooter-plugin, and add XFCE-clipman to the panel. Both work seemlessly, and intergrate well. Mapping the screenshooter to the PrtScr is simple too.

All the usual suspects work well, Libreoffice, Skype, Guayadeque (because the radio plugin is one of the best) and of course Wine for some of my older games.

Hopefully this will start firing Peppermint OS up the rankings on distrowatch!

All good. Font to 'slight' was the one. Such simple things do annoy us! Best distro by a country mile though!

I am a big Peppermint fan, but i am not liking the new release. For me the first noticeable change is the fonts!  I preferred the font and size in 7, how do i revert back?
