Hardware / DVD no playback - Pep 6 on a HP DV1000 (solved)
« on: May 06, 2016, 10:28:10 am »
I used the update manager and am now fully updated.  Not too concerned about the eject button, but can not play DVD, only audio cds. Could you folks help me troubleshoot that issue?  I looked at one of the logs from SM player and saw error messages like "could not connect to socket" etc.
Player will display movie title and list chapter files,  no video or sound however.  What to check first?

My CD/DVD tray eject button works fine with an empty tray, then if I play an CD, stop the playback and try the eject button- no effect.  I can go to the "Disks" menu and use the "eject media from drive" soft button, always works.
This is a HP DV1000 laptop,  1.6 Ghz, 2g ram.
Peppermint 6,  have not yet installed all updates- should I do that first?

New Users / LX session config question/ Laptop
« on: April 27, 2016, 01:13:40 pm »
I was poking around trying to install an audio eq app and found LX session config setting for laptop was "No".  Should I manually set it to "Yes" and what am I missing out on having it set to "No"?
Question #2:  "Audio EQ" add-on for Chromium installs but won't function.  I was using Firefox but switched back to Chromium because there apparently are no integratable(?) Equalizers for Firefox due to the Flash vs HTML5 issue.  Is this still the case?
I wanted to adjust the frequency response for playing podcasts for my Mum.
Thanks.

I especially appreciate the installer; Xubuntu was my former noob-friendly favorite for ease of OS install.  But I had some problems with Xubuntu and installing software packages.  I miss the XFCE mousie tho.
I like Puppy too.  Woof!

Just intalled Pep6 in a 11 yr old HP Pavilion DV1000, had to install to HDD on another computer then move the drive over.
Couldn't have taken more than 3 minutes to get wireless up and running, streaming audio.  Very pleased. Also seems to boot faster even tho HP has slower CPU.  WOO HOO!  Nice
Thanks for a great OS,

New Users / Speed questions
« on: April 25, 2016, 11:00:19 am »
Hi people. I installed Pep 6 last night and it seemed seriously slow to me.  Booting up, opening programs.  Seemed almost like there was no page file or too small of one.
I'm on an old Dell desktop w/ 2.53g pentium 4, 2g ram.  5400rpm Seagate 2.5" drive (I'm planning to move it to a laptop later)
I haven't yet installed all the recommended updates- should I do that first?

New Users / Question about clock (Solved)
« on: April 25, 2016, 10:37:30 am »
Hi just installed 6 last night. Is there a way to toggle the clock from 24 to 12 hour mode?  I ended up putting docky in.
Also, is light locker supposed to be gone? I still have it I think...
