Hardware / Re: Dell C1660W Wireless Color Laser Printer Driver issue
« on: July 31, 2015, 04:38:31 pm »
Well, unfortunately I am down and out :( . Last night thunderstorms came through and lightning knocked out the 530s, monitor (glad I switched to an older one), xbox and tv. I have no other "box" to play with but hope to get another 530s down the road as I like it's small form factor, plus it was free.

How should I mark the status of this thread?

Do you want me to type up installation instructions ?

Let me have a few days to try myself before I wave the surrender flag. My 52 year old brain needs the exercise.

Thanks for the offer/assistance & I won't leave the thread hanging.

So have you installed the modified foo2zjs package from your link yet ?

and what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
uname -a
?

No I have not, I will have try to tackle that. The installation instructions in the install file are very confusing for this newbie. But I am game to try.

Thank you,

Hardware / Dell C1660W Wireless Color Laser Printer Driver issue
« on: July 24, 2015, 10:13:48 pm »

Printer:
Dell C1660W Wireless Color Laser Printer used on my network by all users and connected to HP desktop via USB.

My Issue:
Searched the forum, nothing found for "C1660W". Appears there isn't a driver for the Dell C1660W Color Laser Printer.

What I have tried:
Came across some claims that the Xerox Phaser 6000B driver will work for the C1660W even for 64-bit. Was worth a shot even though it is stated for 32 bit.

http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6000/file-download/engb.html?operatingSystem=linux&fileLanguage=en_GB&contentId=116065&from=downloads&viewArchived=false

    Filename: 6000_6010_deb_1.01_20110210.zip
    Version 1.01
    Date 28 Mar, 2011
    Size 483 KB

Installed printer driver and created print queue in CUPS per site instructions.  Printer unresponsive resulting in "Filter Failed".

Seems all leads direct me to http://cybercom.net/~dcoffin/hbpl/. Unable to print test page as printer is unresponsive - Never changes from "Ready To Print" on printer display. Being the newbie that I am, I have no idea how to implement the suggested commands/resolution.

I thank you in advance for any assistance/comments and will try to respond in a timely fashion.

I've tinkered with a few other distributions, but Peppermint 6 is the one I'm going to actually use as I really like it. First time Linux "user".

My salvaged Dell Desktop:
Dell Inspiron 530s Small Form Factor Desktop; Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz; 3.5 gigs of RAM; DVD Drive -TSSTcorp SH-224DB; 120 GB 3.5 inch Western Digital "White Label" Hard Drive; 80 GB 2.5 inch EIDE Western Digital Hard Drive in Sanoxy HDE-E01 USB 2.0 Enclosure; Panda PAU05 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter; Dell 2209WA Monitor; Canon-MF4320 Laser Printer (had to install driver - Linux_UFRII_PrinterDriver_V300_us_EN); Dell SK-8115 USB Keyboard; Dell USB Mouse

My Issue:
