Excellent help! Will stick to peppermint from now onwards. OS is one thing, but community like that is another.

Talk to you soon.

Oh my, I hope I'm not annoying you too much.

I did just what you wrote me to do. Just finished installing. Reset. Grub command line again.
And what is even funnier fdisk writes that GPT partition detected on /dev/sda.

It looks as if those partitions get created during install process.
during the process of installing i got notified that there will be 3 partitions created #1 efi, #2 ext4, #3 swap

did that. it doesn't show GPT anymore now.
just states the following:

Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00065d8f

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System

Disk /dev/sdb: 2031 MB, 2031091712 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 246 cylinders, total 3966976 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00091bb7

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sdb1   *         128     3966975     1983424    6  FAT16

is that what it should be? witn no /dev/sda devices?

As to gParted: before i deleted the partitions the "Mount" was greyed out. So not sure about that. Then again there was no "Unmount" button

Also during the installation I chose "Erase disk and install Peppermint". Maybe I should choose "Something else"? Not sure where the devil is in here :)

I've just rerun LiveUSB, enter gParted and it looks like the same.
At the top right corner i have /dev/sda selected - so that's good

The list shows:
/dev/sda1   fat32           512MiB          8.25MiB     503.75MiB   boot
/dev/sda2  ext4            463.54GiB    10.47GiB     453.08GIB
/dev/sda3  linuxswap 1.71GiB              0.00B            1.71GiB
unallocated unallocated  1.02MiB          -                     -

for dev/sda3 after right-click i have the option to swapoff
but for sda1 and sda2 i have only Delete   Resize/Move   Copy    Format to...    Manage Flags     Check   Label   New UUID    Information

The boot-repair result is:

Boot successfully repaired.

The boot files of [The OS now in use - Peppermint Six] are far from the start of the disk. Your BIOS may not detect them. You may want to retry after creating a /boot partition(EXT4, >200MB, start of the disk). This can be performed via tools such as gParted. Then select this partition via the [Separate /boot partition:] option of [Boot Repair].

No idea what that all means

Did all of the above. Just finished installing. Resetted the computer and it finished.... at grub line again.  :(
The funny thing is that fdisk states a GPT partition again. Somehow it did not change it to msdos

Ok, but to clarify, by "boot to LiveUSB" you mean :

-boot from USB
-choose try Peppermint Linux without installing
-and then follow your instructions?

Absolutely yes. There is basically nothing on that computer anyway. If you just told me how to do that - I will be more than happy to do that

Hey,
yes - it is a rather new netbook (HP Pavilion 10.1 TouchScreen) but i used to install numerous linux distributions like kubuntu on it and it ran with no problem.
Not sure if that would be a doubleboot as during the installation i chose to erase the disk and install the system on whole disk.

The other thing:
sudo grub-install /dev/sda

as you said - returned: No errors found.

But it still stops at grub line during launching the computer

Installation / Grub problem after install PM6
« on: July 12, 2015, 12:33:51 am »
Hi,

I am totally new to Peppermint Linux.
I need some help fixing the installation.
I downloaded the iso file, made a bootable USB with Unetbootin and installed the PM6 on my netbook choosing the option to wipe the disk of the previous system and install PM on whole the disk. It all went smoothly.
However, after the installation when I removed my USB stick and turned on the computer it goes into

GNU GRUB version 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.3

Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. for the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions.

....and stops there.
Using some of the tricks I could find on the internet I found out that I can launch PM6 writing at the grub line:
grub> set  pager=1
grub> set root=(hd0,2)
grub> linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-37-generic root=/dev/sda2
grub> initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-37-generic
grub> boot

and it does work every time. But how do i do that automatic? It just sounds ridiculous to do that every time.
Thanks
