"In order to use Dropbox, you must download the proprietary daemon."

(then 'don't show this again check box option & ok / cancel )
Do I need to reboot ?

All done :)

(Had to enter the password)
It's now moaning about the "proprietary daemon" :)
So I assume that's in the same location ? :)

Yeah No it's fine I did get that. :) Really I did ! :D

But I was happy that way it was just fine. Nice to know that it could be done another way. But yes I agree that in a forum it saves lots of potential 'look and clicking' (by me) and maybe mistakes, so totally agree the command line prompt commands was a much safer and easier option.

Now I have a new question ...
Was just opening up Dropbox ... and it says "In order to use Dropbox, you must d/l the proprietary daemon. Note : python-gpgme is not installed, we will not be able to verify binary signatures'
Now this is NOT urgent but what will I need to do to run this....

Thank you so much for all your help and everyone's input into this it is very much appreciated! :D

Glide pad setting ?

do you mean to make the touchpad less sensitive ?

If so
menu > Preferences > Peppermint Control Center > Keyboard & Pointer (tab)

then the sliders under "pointer Options"

Is that what you mean ?
Yes where I meant thank you ! :D But more to confirm that the left button is the prime click button but all it has is a left hand option ... so I'm assuming then that the left button will be to select and confirm .... and so hence why then won't the arrow work?
Humm I guess I'll have to try get a mouse on this to try it! :)

OK thanks for the GUI (ach ought to have known that!) Blame the cold again! ;) thanks. :)

Yep that all sounds fine. Just been wondering about if it may have been possible to use the Linux version of it but that no longer looks like its available (or maybe I'm recalling it wrong it was years ago and a lot has happened since then!) But yeah OK! :)

Re Arrow control .. there must be a glide pad control somewhere ... and I'm assuming that I can check the glide pad controller there to ensure that it is set up correctly?
Any ideas ? :D

Yes I know you need Linux to run Linux and Win to run Win!  :D
Still think there is or was a Linux version... I know the s.ware I have can run on a linux server though but that maybe a very different thing !
I'd chosen Win software as I'd always (& was at the time) only running Win software and had fully expected to be up and running with this in later 07 !! :(

What I'm trying to figure out is....

Does this software have to be installed locally .. or is it an online service ?

If it's an online service that you access through your browser it doesn't matter what OS you're running .. problem is, there website isn't too clear on this (or even at first glance what the software actually does) and the "trial" link is broken so I can't find out ::)

OK, the 30 day trial is an exe .. so is Windows only software.
You do realise that Linux doesn't run Windows software don't you ?
Yeah their site used to be far better than this! :(
I bought previous versions of software that I own outright and with the web application licence to create and run the online database. It looks like now they are only offering an online version.
Let me just go check it a bit more in case I've got something wrong here.
But basically it's like an ever expandable version of Access... but able to make tables (and all data exportable) for every aspect of every section to have as a searchable database and so one that I can make up and load up online too. Then individuals can then add in their own data and I can just add on updates and improvements etc without corrupting any of the data. So it seems good! BRB :)

Thanks for the welcomes to Pep :) Appreciated and Thank you! :D

Not true .. YOU did the ACTUAL work, if you were reading how from a book you'd still have a sense of accomplishment, so why does it matter that the text was on a forum instead of a book ?
Nobody's born knowing this stuff, but you managed to follow the instructions and install an OS that you had zero knowledge of .. I'd call that an accomplishment ;)

Heck, just knowing where and how to get help is a skill .. and probably the most valuable skill you can have .. I don't know everything, but I know where to find out kinda thing :)
Yeah OK I can kinda agree - it does seem ppl seem oblivious as to how to find help and where! Which I do find odd but OK!
... I guess working with Dos yonks ago helped as it wasn't so unusual for me to have a dos (like) box. I've even used the up and down keys to repeat commands! :) (& then altered as per necessary on the odd occasion).

But it's massively different IMHO having a person tell you the bits as you go with advice & help... than just reading a book! To me reading instructions about all this would be really hard. You *knew* what I wanted and told me just and exactly, and only, what I needed. It made it efficient, straight forward. It cut out all my wonderings and if's and but's, that I would have got very muddled with, if it had it been a book!
Thats worth a lot to me! :)

I know that I can select the Win or Linux hosting and I bought all the software slowly until about 2009/10.
I have the discs and then downloaded the later versions and have copies.
I have it on this machine but only just opened up the latest version (on this puta) ... I can check but it's not too crucial right now but it would be nice to know. They used to sell the s/ware directly but now like many companies they are selling a licence only to use it which is bad IMHO! And likely to put off tons of people!

OK it has increased in cost massively! Yeesh!
I started with it in about 04 and bought upgrades each year at very decent discounted prices including the web application software so that I can have a large searchable online database. It looks like they have been changing it a lot!
But my last several years have been dealing with several bereavements and Court cases from those... bit of a nightmare and I'm only now beginning to try to get my life and businesses back up and running. :)
