Software & Applications / Re: Lock screen notifications
« on: September 19, 2018, 09:51:06 pm »
I don't want it to actually show emails and calendar events. I just want it to show an email icon with a number next to it. Same thing for calendar, Skype and what not. On Win10 it shows a notification counter at the bottom. This isn't a deal breaker. Just curious if it existed.

Software & Applications / Lock screen notifications

I was wondering something. Is there a way to get emails and upcoming calendar appointments on the lock screen? One of the things I miss about windows 10 is being able to see things at a glance without having to manually check. Is there a mod I can install or a different lock screen? It will have to work with my fingerprint reader, though.

Software & Applications / Two bluetooth adapters
« on: September 02, 2018, 07:12:39 am »
I have a weird quirk with my laptop. I only have one wireless card installed which handles WiFi and Bluetooth. However, under bluetooth manager it shows I have two adapters. andrew-Thinkpad and also andrew-Thinkpad#1. I didn't realize this and have different devices paired to different adapters. So I keep having to open bluetooth manager and changing the active adapter. It doesn't do this under Windows, so I know its just a software quirk. Any ideas how to make it only show one adapter?

Hardware / Re: Black screen after login

What happens if instead of typing "reboot", you instead type
Code: [Select]
sudo service lightdm restart
That actually worked. It happened again and I tried. I can only assume since I can't see what's on screen that last time I mistyped it. But it took me back to the login screen and then the desktop worked fine.

Is there an easy way to upgrade without having to reconfigure my whole machine? The only thing I have about distro upgrades is having to download all my programs again and my files.

So it did it again and I tried to restart the lightdm service. Nothing. I swiped my fingerprint at the lockscreen, it went to a black screen. I opened up a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and typed the restart command. Fingerprint sensor lit up so I could swipe it again, and nothing. I typed the command three times and it never did anything. So once again I just typed reboot and the machine did a quick reset. I honestly have no idea why it does this.

Ok thanks. Off topic, why'd they get pissed? Isn't one of the main points of Linux supposed to be community driven and people just helping each other out?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but how do you get that side panel to look so good? Last time I tried to install Conky it just did not want to work for me. It wanted to take up 3/4 of my screen and was centered. Also all of the modules were layered on top of each other. How is yours so clean looking?

I won't know until it happens again. It'll probably be a few days. When it happens I'll report back.

Hardware / [SOLVED]Black screen after login
« on: August 19, 2018, 10:30:02 am »
Hello all.

I have a problem that I can't seem to figure out. I have a ThinkPad x201 with P8 installed. Alot of the time when I'm done using the laptop for a bit I'll just shut the lid and put it to sleep. When I open it the lockscreen will ask for my fingerprint and all is good. But sometimes, maybe once a week, after I swipe my fingerprint the desktop will be a black screen. If I hit super + L it'll go right back to the lockscreen and the display works again. Unlock again and it goes back black. The only solution I can do is Ctrl+Alt+T and type reboot. The laptop then reboots. So the based on that I can tell the desktop is loaded and unlocked. What could be causing this? Is there a command I can type to restart the desktop environment or something similar?

Software & Applications / [SOLVED] How to install icon packs
« on: August 14, 2018, 05:26:20 pm »
Every icon pack I come across is in the tar.xz format. But you can only install in the tar.gz format. Last time I tried a tar.gz format, nothing happened. It said installing and then the install popup disappeared with no new icons.

Software & Applications / Re: Android apps on Peppermint OS?

Not yet. There is a project called Anbox which will run Android apps inside of their own sandbox, similar to Android apps on Chrome OS. However, that project is in very early alpha development. It won't be ready for mass use for quite some time.

I tried to install anbox and found that it will only install on official ubuntu distributions, said so in the installation attempt. Did install it in Lubuntu 16.04 in an attempt to make video calls in WhatsApp, doesn't work very well, freezes. The makers state that it's extremely buggy and will probably freeze often. You could use Genymotion in a vm, which I tried for the same reason, and it works pretty good except if you want to see the other person's video, you have to buy a subscription with Genymotion.
I also tried to install it. Once it exits alpha they talked about letting it be installed on other systems. But since it's so early in development apps are going to be buggy. I hope they get it figured out. Since it's not emulation it should work in near to real time. And I feel like it would partially solve Linux software gap.

Software & Applications / Re: Phone/PC Syncing Software
« on: January 31, 2018, 07:04:22 pm »
Thanks for the info. I actually didn't create an outside sync folder. I added the memory card files to the dropbox folder. I then opened up the folder where the program files are kept for ePSXe. I took the memory card files in the dropbox folder and created a soft link to the program folder. So ePSXe is actually loading the files from the dropbox directly. So when I save a game it overwrites the file in the dropbox folder. When that happens it triggers a sync immediately, which immediately syncs with my Android phone. I did the same thing in Android by pointing ePSXe to the dropbox folder. So now I can play on any device and have the most up to date save on all devices.

Thank you for that link. Even though I didn't follow those instructions, I used the same principal to achieve what I wanted.

Software & Applications / Phone/PC Syncing Software (SOLVED)
« on: January 31, 2018, 11:52:42 am »
Hello all. I have an uncommon request. I play PSX games on my laptop running P8 and also on my Galaxy S7. The program is ePSXe, which is availble for both. There is a memory card file that the program uses to load game save states. What I'm wanting to do is have the same memory card file on both PC and phone. That way no matter what device I play on, it will have the latest save state. So what I'm thinking is using either Google Drive or Dropbox as the master file, and whenever a change is made to the file on my PC or phone, it will sync to the cloud so that way the cloud has the most up to date file. Then, the 2 devices would check to see if there is an updated version of the master file so they will always be up to date.

Does anyone know if Drive is capable of this? I would prefer to use Drive as my entire digital life is tied to my Google account(I am heavily vested in the Android ecosystem). I am willing to use Dropbox if it has the functionality, I've just never used it. I also have a Microsoft account, so OneDrive would also work. Is there a way to make this possible?
