Yes indeed, launching from the command line seemed to be the only option. So thanks for the menu fix! Now everything works just fine. Excellent!

Yep, that fixed the problem! I can now access the scanner from the ScanGear application. Still can't use the SimpleScan tool, but that's not a big deal.

Thanks a lot, very impressed by your responsiveness!

Hardware / Can't detect the scanner for my Canon Pixma MG2450 [SOLVED]
« on: February 15, 2015, 05:37:00 pm »
Hello there,

I've been using Peppermint 5 on my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 1720 for the last 6 months, and it works like a charm. The only problem I have is that I recently changed my printer to a Canon Pixma MG 2450. I installed it from the printer manager, and the printing part works fine. However, I've not been able to have the scanner be detected.
I installed sane-utils then ran sane-find-scanner, but the tool did not find any scanner. Could it be that the scanner is not supported for this printer?

Thanks in advance,
Bidule

Excellent, it worked and the connection even survived the next reboot.

Thanks a lot

wmi                    18673  1 acer_wmi

I ran then the list of commands you suggested
Spoiler (click here to view / hide)
zfamily@zfamily-AMILO-Li-1720 ~ $ sudo modprobe -r acer-wmi
zfamily@zfamily-AMILO-Li-1720 ~ $ sudo modprobe -r ath5k
zfamily@zfamily-AMILO-Li-1720 ~ $ sudo modprobe ath5k
zfamily@zfamily-AMILO-Li-1720 ~ $ sudo rfkill unblock all

Then I left-clicked on the network icon in the task bar and I noticed that all three wifi networks were shown, which is a major progress! Unfortunately, I still cannot connect: when I select any of the listed networks, the network icon turns to a busy state for a while (saying "Configuring Wi-Fi network connection '...'), then a message box pops up saying "Disconnected - you are now offline". So it's getting better, but we're apparently not there yet...

Hi there PCNetSpec,

Thanks for your reply, here is the output of your commands. I just had to run first
Code: [Select]
ifconfig wlan0 up
as the card is apparently initially down.

Networking / Wifi with Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1720 [SOLVED]
« on: August 17, 2014, 05:31:35 pm »
Hello there,

I recently discovered Peppermint OS and found it would be a great option for my old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 1720 laptop. I went through the install without any problem, but am now struggling to get the wifi to work. I installed WiFi Radar and can see my networks, so it seems that I'm getting close, but still I can't connect... Can anyone help me to sort this out?

Thank you in advance!
