Advanced Topics / Re: Nemo update in Peppermint OS 9 (SOLVED)
« on: August 18, 2019, 04:54:29 am »
Yes, because it's an integral part of the DE and could render the machine unusable (for most) should an update go wrong.
(and things like lib incompatibility through use of PPA's make this a distinct possibility)

There is also MUCH more to nemo integration than just releasing an updated nemo package .. there's all the plugins, the desktop (which is also handled by nemo) and a lot of other apps that have been modified to work with this specific version.
(and possibly things like user added nemo action scripts, etc. that we'd not be able to test against a new nemo version)

Unless there's a security concern there's absolutely no reason we should risk user experience/stability updating such an integral part of the DE.

AFAIK this is normal for every distro (not just us, and not just nemo) .. core DE components are rarely updated 'mid-life' .. Mint don't backport newer versions of nemo to older releases (for example Mint 19.1 will not get 19.2's newer version of nemo).

Thanks for explaining ;)

Mark is Nemo only updated in a new release of Peppermint and if so why?

Bleachbit be carefull with that. Can do more harm then good if you don't know what your doing. Don't see the benefit of it to be honest.

Wellcome eruditorum to the best distro on the planet  8)

Don't really know, but I always do sudo apt autoremove in terminal. Did you try that?

You can't please everyone Mark I understand. There are plenty of other themes, but they or always missing something or shrinking the icons and the LCD clock like Adwaita dark. I installed the Pepp 9 theme the red one, but get an error so I installed Arc theme wich is in Synaptic and tweaked it to remove the dotted lines.

I'm not a big fan of the default theme either, but there a lots of other themes, like for instance Arc dark (my favorite at the moment) or Adwaita dark.

I gave and giving Fx Preview a try, but missing reader mode and I don't care about cookies addon. I hate those popups all the time. For now I prefer Firefox on Android.

Edit: I'm a chab. Readermode is available in Fx Preview. Swipe up on the tabbar and option comes up.

Belated welcome to @clatterfordslim, @Johan & @JoeP12 ... we hope you all find a nice comfy home here in our forums...

What are you running Peppermint on? / Re: Lenovo Thinkpad x220
« on: June 29, 2019, 11:40:57 am »
Thinkpads are nearly always great Linux machines :)

I have/had the same experience with HP. 8 on my 2013 HP Sleekbook and currently 10 on my HP All in one.

I experienced the same thing when I came from Windows to Linux when using Peppermint 8. Never any screen tearing on Windows.

Wellcome to the wonderfull word of Peppermint  Jintymac ;)
