New Users / My laptop screen starts flickering when I unplug it
« on: December 28, 2018, 02:56:11 pm »
My laptop screen starts flickering when I unplug it. What should I do?

I use an asus x553m.

I've tried to remove the power manager software and it didn't work.
I think my refresh rate drops when unplugged, but I don't know how to fix it.

Does it display as you want if you type
Code: [Select]
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1768x992

EDIT: Have a look at the Arch Wiki, it might help... https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xrandr

The screen goes black after I run
Code: [Select]
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1768x992
and stays black.

New Users / Can't use the correct resolution
« on: June 22, 2018, 11:44:06 am »
I connected an old Samsung TV to my laptop with an HDMI cable. I've used the same TV with windows and the resolution that works best on it is 1768x992. But that option does not appear on the list of resolutions.

I've tried:
Code: [Select]
cvt 1768 992
xrandr --newmode "1768x992_60.00"  145.50  1768 1880 2064 2360  992 995 1005 1029 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 "1768x992_60.00"
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode "1768x992_60.00"
Then the TV displays the following message:"Unusable mode". I don't know why.

I have tried to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but that file doesn't exist. Should I create one ?
What should I do ? ???

New Users / Update error - no public key (solved)

I've got the following error:
Code: [Select]
W: The repository 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/selmf/xUbuntu_16.04  Release' is not signed.

I've tried:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv 3F3411BE43F8BC1F
and the second approach from http://opensourceforgeeks.blogspot.com/2013/04/w-gpg-error-httpppalaunchpadnet-precise.html

None of them worked. :'(
How can I fix it ?
