The terminal did not bring up software manager, just asked for a password.

How do I re-install software manager?

Thanks

New Users / Software Manager disappeared (SOLVED)
« on: February 11, 2018, 10:29:44 am »
So far, I have had great success with Peppermint doing Python development. I need to install Visual Studio but for some reason turned the lap top on this morning was getting PID errors. Then rebooted a few times and it went away, so I start software manager enter my password and it never came back. All of the installed applications are working, but can't get into the software manager to install visual studio.  Tried from the terminal window entering gksu mintinstall and it asked for the password but never comes back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Installation / Re: Boot Opetions
« on: January 10, 2018, 11:05:57 am »
I located a DVD and installed it, but the download was 1.2 gig, way to large for the DVD.

Appears only option for me is to remove the hard drive and mount it on another machine  which supports usb boot, and then install Peppermint.

Thanks for the help, Microsoft really missed the boat on windows 8.1, it sucks! Worse GUI design ever.

Installation / Boot Option (solved)
« on: January 10, 2018, 06:33:01 am »
I have an older PC core2 quad 6700 which cannot boot from USB and has no DVD/CD installed. It is running Windows 8.1 is there anyway to wipe windows 8.1 and install peppermint without installing any extra hardware?

Thanks

****Solution******
[/b]

My machine was an  older HP machine from 2008. Pressing F2 in the bios, no options for booting from USB. Solved by disconnecting every sata drive and by accident I left the USB boot pen drive in the machine and accidentally pressed the power button.  Booted up, and  hot plugged in the drive during the install and the system recognized it. Must be an undocumented boot feature. Found the solution by accident! system is working great. Little slower on the old hard drive, but soon plan to convert to SSD.

Also the physical device I installed was an old DVD writer which came with the machine, but only media I had was an CD-R. which explains the lack of space.

Planning on using this machine as a media center using MythTV with Hauppauge tuners with a Kodi front end.

New Users / Re: Matplotlib Python 3.6 install
« on: January 05, 2018, 10:50:54 am »
I have python 3.6 running in Peppermint and it works fine. Just can't get the Matplotlib to install to 3.6. Everything in 3.6 works even Tkinter.

Works both from the terminal and Visual Studio Code.

I will set Visual Studio code to use 3.5. Any suggestions on how to remove the 3.6 & 3.6m installation?

Thanks
Barry

New Users / Matplotlib Python 3.6 install (solved)
« on: January 04, 2018, 10:20:31 am »
Problem getting Matplotlib to install in Python3.6. I am using Visual studio code and it is working well with 3.6 but Matplotlib only works on  Python 3.5.

usr/bin
barry@barry-Aspire-5750 /usr/bin $ ls -l python*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root       9 Dec 26 15:56 python -> python2.7

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      10 Dec 26 15:56 python3m -> python3.5m

Fairly new to Linux, so not sure how to install the library in 3.6.

I first installed matplotlib as follows: sudo apt-get install python3-matplotlib and it installed fine.
Next I tried  sudo apt-get install python3.6-matplotlib
message:
barry@barry-Aspire-5750 ~ $ sudo apt-get install python3.6-matplotlib
