Installation / burn to cd-r no larger than 700mb
« on: June 26, 2016, 08:21:05 am »
Hi
I have an old computer that had WinXP. It only has a CD reader. I burned Peppermint 5 to a CD because it was a small file. It is great. But now I want to upgrade to Peppermint 7. I downloaded it but it is a larger file 1.1 GB. It will not fit on a cd r 700mb.

any suggestions as to how to upgrade?

Thanks for your assistance.

Susan

Software & Applications / installing indexing_unix.sh program (SOLVED)
« on: September 17, 2014, 02:20:04 pm »
This program is the only one stopping me from deleting Windows 7 permanently
Indexing_unix.sh

I use this program  to do some indexing for the website familysearch.com.

So I got the instructions from  http://freshtutorial.com/install-sh-file-linux/ on how to install an sh program.
I did as he instructed

chmod +x file.sh
./file.sh
the program works OK but I don't see anything in the message field.
and I got all these error messages at the end of the installation

Could not uninstall: http://indexing.familysearch.org/iis-apps/apps/iude-launcher34-java5.jnlp
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "javaws": java.io.IOException: error=2, No such file or directory

Hardware / Computer is slower, is something going on here [SOLVED]
« on: September 14, 2014, 12:17:07 pm »
My web browsing is really slow, slower than usual.  I added 1 GB memory to this old machine and it was working good at the beginning. (IBM Thinkpad R40 2003) I have added a screenshot. The memory does not show 1GB memory
and the CPU usage says 100% but I'm only using the chromium web browser and something called lxtask. see attached screenshot.

I did the update and got this message

susan@st779 ~ $ sudo apt install lsb
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
lsb : Depends: lsb-core (>= 4.1+Debian11ubuntu6) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: lsb-graphics (>= 4.1+Debian11ubuntu6) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: lsb-cxx (>= 4.1+Debian11ubuntu6) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: lsb-desktop (>= 4.1+Debian11ubuntu6) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: lsb-printing (>= 4.1+Debian11ubuntu6) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: lsb-languages (>= 4.1+Debian11ubuntu6) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

This what I get:

susan@st779 ~/Epson-Drivers/NX430 $ sudo apt install lsb
[sudo] password for susan:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

Package lsb is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'lsb' has no installation candidate
