User Submitted Tutorials / Re: How To Install and Use OpenVPN - VPNBook

Thanks for the comments Kyle. I suppose you are still susceptible to the VPS company/host revealing your info with a court order etc... if they get the IP etc? Or is it easy to set it up to be totally anonymous like a VPN service that does not keep logs?
I was looking at airvpn they seem to be good all round from the reviews. No logging is a biggie. Then making sure there are no DNS leaks via the UFW (firewall). Setting it all up manually without a VPN service is a bit daunting to noobies. At least for the moment anyway.

Hi Kyle, Not sure about doing that for myself as the server company has all your details and can be tracked back to you can't it?

I would basically want to be as anonymous as possible.. otherwise.. no point really in doing all this is there?
I would want to even use a disposable credit card or one use debit card.
I could be wrong though.

Have fun !

Maybe the 450 meg is reserved for a hidden top secret windows 11 program file... for when they try to force that on you as well next year. lol.

Bwahahahahaha !  Microsoft gave away their 'golden keys'   :D

Check this out:  https://rol.im/securegoldenkeyboot/

Update... I hope this helps people looking at this thread as well.

I found this thread on reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/comments/34ueji/linux_vpn_with_kill_switch_and_dns_leak_prevention/

Was hoping you guys could decipher some of what they are saying above.

Are they saying not to use a VPN service? and to use openVPN GUI with the code mentioned and implementing the UFW?
If so, is it safe to do so in regards to not wanting to use the unsecure PPTP.

Still really new to all this.

You guys have been great.

Actually, I liken coming onto this forum (after finding the great Peppermint OS) to walking into a 4th year engineering class at university and asking a 1st year question, while the 4th year students are just sitting their shaking their heads...lol
Now I know how my Grandfather felt (when he got on "This internet thingy") when he asked me what a right click on the mouse does...  >:(

PCNET... great video find on you tube.. thx
Wish he could do one on the firewall to act as a DNS leak too..

Messing around with gufw because I haven't found decent alternatives. The kill-switches that I tested didn't work or were to slow...
I'm still in the market for a VPN provider with a Linux GUI and a built-in working "kill-switch"!

Oh I hear ya with VPN provider with a Linux GUI and a built-in working "kill-switch"!

Thx GNU.. I am sure everyone (me included) appreciate your feedback.

I think the best choice at the moment I can come up with is this..

1. Get a VPN service (hopefully with a Linux Graphic user interface - No luck finding one yet) no log keeping, DNS leak cutoff etc...
2. Set up GUFW (firewall) to only allow VPN traffic and put in as many IP's as possible for the different locations on the planet.

This sound correct?

If so, The above code would do it yes?

Thx
Todd

I, too, am astonished at how well Peppermint 7 is running on my computer.  I'm having no issues at all.  I've never had a computer run so well in my life.  Peppermint 7 is spectacular! :)
