Software & Applications / firefox error message with Netflix
« on: June 04, 2017, 09:47:38 pm »
Firefox is supposed to be able to run Netflix but I get an error message just like I would on Chromium or Vivaldi.  Does someone know how to solve this?  Sorry if I missed this on searching the posts.
Thanks for your time and efforts.

I am using version 8.  I guess I need to update some of my profile.

Abiword flickers as I type on Peppermint not on Linux Mint Mate.  Others have this problem.  Any ideas as to how to solve?

Thanks for all of your time and efforts.  I still can not have any audio.  I am going to try another OS.  I will miss this forum environment.  Thanks to all.

HI,
No I don't get that statement any more.  Will try things out here now and see how it works.  No audio yet and no update shield on task bar.  I am sending the actual results now.

Hardware / testing harddrive

Hi there,
There is some concern that my hard-drive may not be working properly.  Is there an easy way to test for that?

I went through the synaptic package manager and chose another server.  No changes happened here as far as audio goes.  Update manager also still does not show in task bar.  The server seemed to load as expected.  A learning experience for me.  I will attempt to focus my inquiries on just one aspect of my concerns.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Hope I have not frustrated everyone with my concerns.  You have many others to deal with.

Hi there,
Thanks for helping.  There is no update manager in the task bar.  It used to be there.  I had not noticed that I was not getting  updates until now.  Also some of my programs have been deleted from my computer.  Gimp was downloaded and is now absent.  It soes not even show in software and updates menu as being downloaded.  Do I have a virus?  I checked the ISO when I had it and it matched perfectly.  I have no audio problems when I run this via my keydrive but of course that will not let me print etc..

Thanks for any help you may give.  I really would like to stay with Peppermint mainly now because of people  like yourself that try so hard to help.  But I don't want to waste your time either.

Glen
question: if I need to go to another DE will I loose any new printer drivers that I have installed?  I guess I could find the driver and put it in another drive.

Hi again
I have been getting the message that Gstreamer is not functioning in Rhythmbox.  Is this related?

Previously using the software manager I had removed pulse audio and it made no difference.  I then added the code that you suggested and rebooted.  At that time I got the following message
Code: [Select]
glen@glen-P5K ~ $ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio pulseaudio-utils pavucontrol
[sudo] password for glen:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package pavucontrol
glen@glen-P5K ~ $
I hope I enered the code properly this time.  As you can see it says that it can not locate pavucontrol.  I reinstalled it via the synaptic package manager to no avail.
I was wondering if I should use my keydrive and re-install the system onto the drive and start over again.
My concern is that if I do I might lose the driver that Brother supplied for my printer to finally work.  That took ages.

Dear staff,
I just want to say that no matter what happens in the future your assistance and time has been greatly appreciated.  After teaching for soo many years it is humbling to know nothing.  I guess we all need that at some time.  Also (and I found it hilarious) as a senior who has been bugging you for help that the commercial right above your words were for seniors insurance.   :)
Until later.

Mark,
I put in the last set of instructions that you showed me on G+ and this is the response I got:
Code: [Select]
[sudo] password for glen:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package pavucontrol
I just copied and pasted the command into the terminal.  Would that be a problem.  The command flowed on to the second line.
