Artwork, Themes, and Icons / Re: Peppermint 6 window decoration
« on: August 21, 2016, 02:13:14 pm »
This whole "look change" went prettttyy well.

Check picture which I attached :)

However, I ended up with black font under icons and white font on start menu. I need it reversed.

There are multiple tutorials advising how to modify code to change colour, but I was wondering if within Peppermint there are settings allowing to change that ?

Checked web - nothing
Checked repositories - nothing :(

Let me ask here. Every time I install Nvinia drivers it breaks the graphic of my winodws. Top bar on any window is not visible or broken. Some GTK incompatibility....  Did it ever happened to you ?

Installation / Re: Dual Boot problems in MSI
« on: July 10, 2016, 02:01:32 pm »
Sorry guys,

I didn't read last message on-line and obviously system didn't notify me of your remaining ones. After spending (all) last Sunday on this problem ,I switched to 64 bit version (read somewhere this will only work on 64 bit) then used rufus cd image maker under windows to create P7 boot usb and used all settings that are available there, to make it detect USB unde UEFI.

Previously (on Big Bang Theory  ;) )  I had to switch in BIOS from UEFI to LEGACY, install system and switch back o UEFI. But on on P& didn't work.

Not sure what fixed the problem but it was probably both thins = 64 bit + making uefi compatible boot CD.

GRUB went to main drive (not UEFI partition) like advice by you above and all works fine.

PS - I have MDI GP7- 2PE - Mind Blowing past on Peppermint. Not sure why it says dual-core below, it's quad-core.

This is hopeless...

Millions of users (including myself) are being driven to madness (i just reinstalled system 10 maybe 12 times) because of EFI implementation several years ago.
Still - not resolution on Linux side...

I can't post result of inxi -F - so far I cannot even boot  :'(

Let's waste time 13th time

Installation / Dual Boot problems in MSI
« on: July 03, 2016, 10:25:02 am »
Hi all,

Same problem as before.

1) When I try to install Peppermint7 (from USB) it will not boot from it on UEFI.

2) Only switching to Legacy from from UEFI allows my MSI to discover bootable USB with Peppermint7. But after installation I don't grub selection.

3) Third variable is installation of boot manager. Shall I install to main drive? To /sd2 where Peppermint is installed ? Or to special partition which is suggested during installation ?

Hey,

Is there a global way of removing all associations and going back to default settings ?  :-\
(instead of changing each and every file or program)

Software & Applications / Nylas N1 - good Email client
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:12:32 am »
Hi all,

Just want to share some experiences with Nylas N1 email client.

I'm long term user of Claws Mail for since several months I only had issues. Perhaps it was coming from google but still - no way to resolve issues with Claws being slow.

I tried all other mail programs and Geary was quite good, but it was struggling with certain options of IMAP, buttons, etc.

I'm currently testing little known N1 Nylas email client and I a very impressed. Authors confirmed to me that it has some issues (for example I cannot turn off email threading gmail style") but all in all - it's very good.

Hi guys,

Something is wrong with my file associations...

Even if I change in "Default Applications for LXSession"  it does not take effect. Audacious is opening pdf's, Libre office is opening .txt files...

Is there any config file that I could remove to restore default file associations ?

Or perhaps terminal command ?

I think I was mostly successful following your advice  :)

What exactly is bumblebee ? I read a bit about it and it seems to be a manager for Nvidia to reduce the power consumption.... but not only.

Hey,

Thank you for the tip! I did what you advised and it all looks alright. No errors whatsoever, but without 'quiet splash' it goes straight to konsole and when I try to turn on graphic mode by using 'startx' i gives the errors which I described in this thread.

I checked boot.log and it looks fine. No errors, nothing obvious.

I run some standard commands from the terminal/command line like apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, refreshed grub and all works perfectly.
My files are there, everything is the - just the login window ins't and I cannot login...

What would be best now - clean installation or installing P6 on P6 ?

Or things like:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop xorg build-essential

I hope that new installation will last longer than 2 days :)

Boom there goes my Peppermint again  >:(

I didn't do any modifications to the system, didn't changed anything and it is the same problem. I start, I see the progress bar to load Peppermint 6 and instead of login window I see black screen.

I know that ubuntu removed the option to see what is happening during system startup when Esc is pressed.

Are there any logs I can check to see what killed peppermint again? I'm starting to be fed up with constant reinstalls...

Hey,

So xface-power-manager works perfect for screen-lock once I open the laptop from standby... but it does not remember the settings for screen brightness  :-\
This is actually known issue. I changed the gconf and dconf and settings to minimal brightness values but it won't take effect. As soon as I start laptop again, it goes to 100% brightness  :(
