Hi there,

General Discussion / P11 ETA
« on: October 10, 2019, 05:57:06 am »
Quick question... I just got a new laptop and need to install Peppermint.  Is P11 anywhere nearby so is it worth me hanging on to W10 for a bit?

Hi all,

Is there a guide anywhere showing how to post the output from the terminal properly?  Whenever I paste it in, it just shows as normal text and not coloured.

Thanks.

GNU/Linux Gaming / Steam DX11 feature level 10.0 is required
« on: September 26, 2019, 03:25:12 pm »
Hi all,

I have downloaded a couple of games lately (Life is Strange 2 & Adventures of Captain Spirit) which come up with the above error when I try to run them.  According to ProtonDB the compatibility is Platinum so they should run ok.  Can anyone help me out please on whether Peppermint can run these games and how I can do it?

I am trying to run them using Proton 4.11-6.

Thanks

What are you running Peppermint on? / Laptop recommendations
« on: August 19, 2019, 07:17:52 am »
The screen on my Toshiba Portege is slowly breaking and I fear it is time to jump into the murky world of second hand laptops again.  I had 8gb Ram and Intel i5 so don't want to step down from that as it was quite zippy and coped with spreadsheets and games quite well.  Not bothered about hard drives as everything I do is on the cloud.  It must have HDMI so I can connect the TV.  And I want to keep the price down!

So.... I wondered what your recommendations might be for maximum compatibility with P10.

Software & Applications / Stuck on Log-in Screen (Solved)
« on: August 19, 2019, 06:07:21 am »
Last night my P10 stopped booting.  I get to the log-in screen but after entering the password, the screen flashed black for a brief second and then went back to the log-in screen.  It is the correct password.  I have 2 other profiles, one of which has no password and they also do the same.  I have re-booted a few times, but no joy.  Any advice?

Software & Applications / Auto Start xScreenSaver-Demo (SOLVED)
« on: June 14, 2019, 11:52:35 am »
Hi all,
We have installed this and it gives some amazing screensavers.  But every now and then on re-boot it doesn't auto-load and I have to manually load it.  Any ideas how to get it to auto load?

Thanks

Hardware / Mouse & Keyboard stop working
« on: June 03, 2019, 02:18:20 pm »
Argh, it was all going so well on my wife's PC and then her mouse and keyboard stopped working.  >:(

We did a hard re-boot and all was fine.... for a few hours and then both of them stopped working again.  The keyboard is a standard USB one and the mouse is bluetooth, but is plugged in to charge most of the time.

Help!!!  :'(

What are you running Peppermint on? / Wife at last!
« on: May 31, 2019, 12:55:03 pm »
After a couple of years of trying I have finally managed to persuade by wife to install Peppermint on her PC instead of Win10.  Her PC was starting to really crawl so in the end it was an easy win.  P10 is flying and she absolutely loves it!

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I try running it but it says i need super-user privileges.

It happened whilst trying to install Bluefish from the software.

Software & Applications / Opera only prints to PDF (SOLVED)
« on: May 06, 2019, 05:49:35 am »
Hi all,

The title pretty much says it all.  If I want to print from Opera then I have to save it as a PDF, then load the PDF and then I can print from that with no problems.  But not directly from Opera.  Even if I select "use system dialogue" it only lets me chose to file.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Martin.

Software & Applications / Mouse and Touchpad menu option (SOLVED)
« on: March 30, 2019, 06:05:22 pm »
Hi all,

I wanted to stop the touchpad from working when typing as it sends the pointer all over the place.  In the Software app I found that I had an app called Mouse and Touchpad already installed which did exactly what I wanted.  I can launch it from within the software app, but cannot find it in any of the menus and it doesn't show up when searching for an app.

Can someone let me know where it is and how I can get it on the menu please?

Thanks
Martin

Software & Applications / Some videos not playing on Opera (SOLVED)
« on: March 25, 2019, 03:41:58 pm »
Hi all,

I realise that this video won't be for all tastes!  But it doesn't play.  I get no controls to play it.  I contacted the site and they gave the cop out response "we don't support linux".  So I thought I would ask the real experts here! 8)

https://www.torahanytime.com/#/lectures?v=79737

I am on Opera Beta 60.0.3255.8,
Also tried in Firefox with the same lack of playing controls.

Thanks in advance,
Martin
