User Submitted Tutorials / 10 things to do first in Peppermint
« on: September 20, 2017, 02:36:39 am »
I don't know if this is against forum rules, but a user-friendly tutorial on setting up Peppermint can be found at:

https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/first-peppermint

There are other useful tips for Mint and Ubuntu there too.

I previously used Mint 18.2 XFCE on this machine but found that when the processor was busy, such as when downloading a complex website, the cursor would often freeze for a couple of seconds. This doesn't happen with Peppermint, confirming that it's a lighter distro.

No particular problems installing Peppermint 8 though the top left quadrant of the screen showed a repeated character in the background, but it didn't interfere with the installation process. The Dropbox client also had to be updated to the latest version.

I've installed Abiword and Gnumeric (as per Lubuntu) with no problems - the "border flashing" which sometimes occurs with Abiword isn't present.

An excellent distro!
