Frequently Asked Questions / Re: What is Peppermint based on?
« on: May 19, 2020, 09:24:45 pm »
I (among many, I guess) found Peppermint in search of a linux version of Chrome OS.
While in that search, I tried out several "lightweight" distros to install  on older computers that couldn't handle Windows 10. After trying out at least a half a dozen,  I returned to Peppermint. I am no longer looking for a Chrome OS alternative, (although I still use ICE occasionally), but P mint is my favorite among light distros.
I use Win 10 on most of my computers, but if were to need to use Linux full-time, I know of no "full-weight" distros that I would prefer over P mint.
I look forward to a bright future for Peppermint!

What (if you know) did Mark dislike about LXQT?

Are you referring to mintupdate @peppycrab? the 4th icon from the right? It should close automagically...

Yes. It used to close automatically, controlled by a setting in software downloading, but I have forgotten where that setting is. I now get "You may close this window now" but I have to do it manually. No big thing, but I'd like to not have to think about it.

Hi peppycrab,

Which window are you talking about?

The (Peppermint) update manager.

(After updating). I recently installed P10 respin (after using P8 respin more many years). I knew how to do this on P8 but I've forgotten.

Software & Applications / Pop Peeper and html

I recently upgraded from P8 respin to P10 respin.  I run Pop Peeper under Wine. Unlike P8, I cannot see html on Pop Peeper on P10. Is there anything I can do?

Truly a huge loss. I won't repeat what others have said (except that I agree with them all).

I found Peppermint (with ICE) while looking for a more versatile version of Chrome OS. I had tried at least a half-dozen distros previously and found P-Mint superior to all of them. I would recommend PM to anyone with an older computer or anyone unhappy with Windows 10. I personally have no gripe with Win10, but cannot run it on my old gasoline-powered netbook. It runs P8 happily and I will probably convert to P10 when the respin comes out shortly.

I found this page valuable when using P8. See if you can install the Broadcom driver that you need.  https://askubuntu.com/questions/55868/installing-broadcom-wireless-drivers
If you are using a newer version of Peppermint, I'm surprised it did not connect automatically.

General Discussion / Re: Removing Tor Browser
« on: November 22, 2019, 11:41:33 am »
I "test drove" Tor and found it wasn't for me. I followed the instructions above and Tor was removed. However, it is still listed in my menu under "Internet" . How do I remove it? I am running Peppermint 8.

Did you try sudo apt autoremove?

Tor was removed but I still have the shortcut under Menu/Internet.

UPDATE: Solved, using Settings/Menu editor

General Discussion / Re: Installed Peppermint 10 and loving it!!!

Tangentially relevant -
I've been using PMint since 7 (Using 8 now - will upgrade to 10 soon (or 11 if I like it better)).
I try other distros as they are recommended for older computers. I have found nothing that touches PMint (Linux Lite comes closest. )
Didn't care much for 9, but 10 is excellent.

Software & Applications / Re: ICE and Firefox variants?

I'm a long time Pale Moon user. I have no problem using Firefox for ICE sites. I just use FF for nothing else (unless PM or Chromium fail me).

My mouth has gotten me into trouble too many times.

I nearly wrote that as "my mouth has bitten me in the ass too many times" but upon reflection....

There's something zen about that...

I join you all in sympathy!

...She just won't consider changing at all. But I won't deny she takes good care of me so I just do what I must to keep her happy.

Pepp On everybody!  :D
