This is a big loss for Pmint's community. He always took the time to help us when we had problems and was very patient/helpful to noobs and experienced members alike. May he rest in peace.

welcome aboard the Peppermint Express, great you figured out what was the problem and thanks for sharing the solution. I played MB Warband some years ago it's a great game, took me some time to conquer all of Calradia  ;D

GNU/Linux Gaming / Re: Performance and tweaks.

I'm a gamer but i never really "tweaked" my system to get extra performance, as long as i get my >= 30FPS and good graphics i'm a happy gamer  :) , i think it's more about getting used to play in a certain way, you don't really notice the difference between 30 - 60 FPS unless you suddenly switch between them, i already experienced this feeling and it was not that big of a deal. After a few games i got used to play in either 30 or 60 mode, so i don't really get it when i see people doing all kinds of tweaking to gain 5-10 fps which is not that noticeable and you'll forget about it after a few games imo.

i think they'r just copy/past'ing other "reviews" they find on the net about peppermint, too bad they don't take example on the good reviews and stick to this "cloud based distro" stigma  :-\

PM7 was very "Marmite", as far as the icon theme went, some loved it and others hated it .. there was no middle ground :)

I'm quite surprised by the amount of people who said they preferred the blue active window border rather than the grey though .. but then you only ever hear from people that don't like a change, people that are happy with a change rarely comment. So there's really no way to know which people prefer.

I liked the blue borders and the colorfule buttons i felt a "PlayStation" vide from it and liked it fromt the first look.  :)

Congrats Zebebeeboss  :D

General Discussion / Re: Changing DE

I'm with Zeb .. it'd be an awful lot of work and risk a lot of breakage to basically end up with DeepinOS. So why not just START with Deepin.

In fact if you basically turned Peppermint into Deepin, neither of us would be able to offer support.

I had this idea when i saw this video
and it seemed to me that installing DDE on Pmint 8 which is Ubuntu based would be the same thing but i had serious doubts about it that's why i didn't try it before asking you :)
I'm backing up my Data to my Win7 partition and i'll test a Deepin DE distro to give it  a try.
By the way i want to mention that Pmint 9 doesn't load well in VirtualBox, i can start the live session but the image is buggy and you can't really distinguish the Desktop or the mouse moving. I tried booting up using a Live USB (using the same ISO) and it worked fine.

Hi Ly,

Short answers - Yes and Yes.

Long answer - You would be better off just installing Deepin OS because by the time you made all the changes and got everything working - it would no longer be Peppermint OS.

Regards Zeb...

Ok thanks for the answer Zeb :)

General Discussion / Changing DE
« on: June 24, 2018, 10:28:43 am »
i see that there's a lot of Desktop Environments in the Linux World and that's great because it gives users the advantage of choice.
i toyed around with some distros on VBox and i liked the Deepin DE so i wanted to know if i could install it on Pmint 8 ? is it possible and if it is then can these changes break the system ?

i've searched a bit and found that the actual auto-adjust button is the same as the on/off button (have to hold the button pressed it for 5sec to see the settings menu).
i adjusted the screen and now it's back to normal on 1366x768 So the problem is solved.
thanks for the help  :)

That's very unusual - is it a TV being used as a monitor ?
no it's a Samsung computer monitor

Hi Zeb,
thanks for the quick reply. There isn't a button to auto-adjust the screen's settings, only the on/off button  :-\

Hardware / [SOLVED] Screen shifted to the left
« on: June 24, 2018, 02:05:06 am »
some days ago i installed Pmint 8 on my friend's computer and i noticed the screen is shifted to the left (about 1/10 of screen's size) when it's set at 1366x768 Resolution (default resolution), it comes back to normal if i choose the other resolution available which is 1024x768. I tried other Distros like : Mx Linux 17.x, Xubuntu 18.04, Manjaro 17.1.10 but the same problem appears with every distro.
Is there a way to manually shift/set the screen back to normal ?
