Title: File Permissions rears it's ugly head once again. [ABANDONED]
Post by: spence on November 20, 2019, 04:25:17 pm
I Guess I never figured out how to actually resolve this issue i have with resetting file permissions previously, but just let it sit. https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,5936.0.html (https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,5936.0.html) But now that I am in need of some files on the drive and want to modify many of them I am at a loss. I attempted to use DISKS to reset permissions across the entire drive, to no avail. This particular platter harddrive dates way way back in time and holds files dating back to the Win98 SE era. meanwhile a much newer 1 TB platter drive is showing up as  SELF-TEST FAILED! Happily it's not got critical files stored, it's only got files that are third level back up.

I'm unsure what to do now that this error message appeared across the thousands of files and folders stored there:

 :)

Happily, moving the needed files from my backup drive to the main NVME drive solves the issue. Guess that means a new storage drive is on the Christmas list!!! Even more happily, my ASRock motherboard has a couple spare spots for new NVME drives.  It's nice when the brain injury fog clears away now and again.

If you KNOW that /media/spence/0018ba15-4046-498c-b8dc-0824aa044320 is the correct drive (and your username:group == spence:spence) .. try
Code: [Select]
sudo find /media/spence/0018ba15-4046-498c-b8dc-0824aa044320 -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;then
Code: [Select]
sudo find /media/spence/0018ba15-4046-498c-b8dc-0824aa044320 -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;then
Code: [Select]
sudo chown -R spence:spence /media/spence/0018ba15-4046-498c-b8dc-0824aa044320then
Code: [Select]
sudo chmod 777 /media/spence/0018ba15-4046-498c-b8dc-0824aa044320
