Title: Ashampoo Office 2018 works with Peppermint 9 under Wine (Solved)
Post by: jozefmw on October 30, 2019, 05:26:35 am
Fed up with WPS Office for various reasons, I tried Ashampoo Office 2018 and it works both under Windows and in Wine/Peppermint 9.

Good to know, I've never tried it .. probably because of the name.

I've been playing with SoftMaker FreeOffice 2018 (Germany): https://is.gd/ldBmKz

It does a nice job on MS Word via PM9 - as good as WPS Office (China) or better - and Wine isn't req'd.

Just saying...   ;)

Yep, they're all getting close to 1:1 formatting compatibility  .. expect Microsoft to change the format again :)

Then let's see what happens with the whole "Microsoft loves Linux" thing :))

I ran into a problem with .docx documents opening in both libreoffice and freeoffice. The document would open out of sync, printed words outside of the boxes they were supposed to be in. I found a work around by opening the document in Word on line and saving it as a pdf file. That would open fine in libreoffice draw and text could then be added where needed.

That's often a font issue (where Linux doesn't have the same font with the same spacing) .. try copying all the Windows fonts to Linux.

Having to collaborate with winders, all the time, it isn't a 100% fix, but...

Carlito is metric-compatible with Calibri font. Carlito comes in regular, bold, italic, and bold italic. The family covers Latin-Greek-Cyrillic (not a complete set, though) with about 2,000 glyphs. It has the same character coverage as Calibri. This font is sans-serif typeface family based on Lato.

One is way ahead of the game by installing "fonts-crosextra-carlito", too:  https://is.gd/zO2tLX   :)
