Title: Gemini II Laptop
Post by: invisible on July 19, 2019, 07:40:14 am
I've recently purchased a Gemini II Laptop from https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/gemini-II/

I ordered it without an OS and it arrived (to a UK address) 7 calendar days after the order was placed.

In fact, there is a trial copy of Windows 10 on the 32GB eMMC drive and I understand that this will somehow expire after 30 days. The supplier installed Windows to test the graphics, sound, wifi etc.
Out of curiosity, I took a Clonezilla image of the Windows OS just as a restore experiment on a rainy day.

I'm pleased with the device, especially the feature of adding a second M.2 drive, where I installed Peppermint 10. You can easily remove the M.2 drive, pop it into another suitable machine and it boots seamlessly.

I installed Peppermint 10 on the M.2 drive in a slightly unusual way. While I was waiting for the device to arrive, I installed Peppermint onto a 16GB Sandisk USB stick. Subsequently, I used Clonezilla to perform a device to device transfer. I was pleasantly surprised that there were no booting/grub dilemmas.

All the features of the laptop function fine.
I'm unable to test the microphone input because I do not own one.

Nice looking laptop, specially for the price.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

I'm pretty sure one of our moderators uses PCSpecialist, and has nothing but good things to say about them.

Aren't computers fun?

EDIT

But wait...

Does everyone see that link, and do you guys circumvent confiscatory taxes by using Dutch sites, or something :-\

Hello VinDSL

AI has spent too much time in the Brown Cafés and its sense of direction has been compromised...............................

I forgot to add to my original post that the BIOS on the Gemini II is pretty easy to navigate and it has a simple Pop-Up window when booting to allow the user to choose OS or USB device etc.

I spent about 15 minutes configuring and testing the BIOS - not bad when you consider how arcane some BIOS choices can be.

Kind regards
