Title: Ubuntu pushing latest nvidia drivers to the main repos (no PPA needed)
Post by: PCNetSpec on July 12, 2019, 04:28:17 pm
Ubuntu are now pushing nvidia updates to the main (updates) repo for 18.04 LTS, so SOON there will be no need for nvidia users to add the proprietary graphics drivers PPA for the latest drivers in Peppermint 10.

It will also SOON mean anyone installing Peppermint 10 and electing to install 'additional drivers and software' during the install should automatically get 430 at install time.

I say SOON, because it's currently in 'proposed' .. hopefully it'll move to 'updates' in a week or so (in time for the HWE rolling Peppermint 10 to the 5 series kernel).

NOTE:- As enabling proposed can break your system (pulling in WAY more than just the graphics drivers), FOR NOW I'd advise people to stick to getting it from the PPA.

But it does bode well for the very near future :)

So if you have the PPA installed - is it now safe to remove it ?

You could, but you might wanna wait until 430 moves from proposed to main/updates.

I'll try to make a post when it does.
