Title: Auto Start xScreenSaver-Demo (SOLVED)
Post by: kloos on June 14, 2019, 11:52:35 am
Hi all,
We have installed this and it gives some amazing screensavers.  But every now and then on re-boot it doesn't auto-load and I have to manually load it.  Any ideas how to get it to auto load?

Thanks

When I first installed it, it worked ever boot up.  Now is doesn't.  To be honest I am not sure whether it is an intermittent problem as my wife isn't too clear on the details!  All I know is that when I try to start it  and it tells me that it hasn't started.

Sorry that was a bit rubbish of me, I should have said that in the first post.  The message when you load it is...

The XScreenSaver daemon  doesn't seem to be running on display ":0.0". Launch it now?

Run:
Code: [Select]
gksudo xed /etc/xdg/autostart/xscreensaver-autostart.desktop
when a blank file opens, make it read
Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Xscreensaver
Comment=Autostart The Xscreensaver Daemon
Exec=xscreensaver -no-splash
Icon=xscreensaver
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=false
SAVE the file and exit the text editor.

Log off/on

test the Screensaver.
