$999 for a monitor stand aint so bad remember this is no ordinary monitor stand it's an Apple monitor stand for a $5000 monitor, comes with an Apple logo custom designed for idiots Apple enthusiasts with a over inflated ego sense of style, personally I think it makes the iPhone X look way underpriced

WTF :)

I had to click on this because of the title. That was hilarious. :))

One of my buddies at work (a fellow nerd) and I have been discussing that stupid stand. It makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm up to 3 times. :D

Who needs to pay rent when you have a beautiful stand. :))

LOL :))

And he said it with a straight face, like the world was waiting for this...
(is my current favourite line .. thought it's a toss-up with "people can even choose to finance it through the Apple website, only 29%")

A stand that is worth a few dollars in scrap metal!

That's probably my favorite. :D Well, that and:

Now you can get an ugly ass stand for the price of a used car.

Part of me wonders what the guy is really saying in the video that has them cracking up like that. (besides his infectious laughter) But, a bigger part of me doesn't give a crap because the subtitles are so funny. :))

Dunno what the original was, but here's the same video from 4 years ago (different subtitles).

Apple Engineer Talks about the New 2015 Macbook

Oh, good lord. They've been using this guy to make jabs at Apple for years.

Man, I hate YouTube. I couldn't even see the last few subtitles on that video because other garbage they want me to watch popped up on top of that video. Speaking of crappy features, I don't know why they thought that was a feature anybody wanted.  ::)

I never said Apple didn't have it coming. Even looking at the current MacBooks, they're a joke.  They start at $1300 and you get one USB-C port and a headphone jack. Oh, and the USB-C is for charging, so you can't charge it and have something plugged in at the same time without a multi port adapter. They have crappy dual cores in them and that hideous 480p camera. For $1300+. You'd have to be out of your mind and have nothing but disposable income to buy one.

Then there are their Mac prices. Ugh. Even the "Mini" is overpriced. They start at $799 for a 3.6 GHz quad core i3, 8GB DDR4 and a whopping 128GB SSD. You don't even get a keyboard or mouse with the thing, much less a monitor. Then who knows what outrageous prices their Mac "Pro" will cost this fall, besides that hideous monitor stand for $1000. They've lost their minds. You can buy a pretty badass gaming computer for under $1000, dump Windows 10 off it and put Linux on it. (or dual boot) And, you get a keyboard and mouse with that.

Yep Mac users are finding it harder and harder to come off as anything other than idiot posers :))

They'll no doubt tell you there's some Mac only software they NEED .. bull.

IMHO, Mac Pros et al. come down to 'bragging rights' for professionals.

Apple hadn't updated their Mac Pros in years, and it was time. It's a niche product.

I can understand it, on a somewhat personal level. At one time, I was getting by at board meetings with a Asus Eee PC.

Who cares what 'they' think, right?

However, I eventually started *feeling* uneasy sitting at a boardroom table with a netbook. Everyone else had high-end Apples, HPs, and Dells. So, to protect my ego/reputation, I bit the bullet and started lugging around a Dell.

I judge the same applies to Mac Pro users. There's a whole subculture of professions out there, that the common man doesn't understand.

Does the average user understand the need for a $30,000 computer system?  No.

Would the average consider buying a $5,000 monitor, which doesn't come with a stand?  No.

Do professional users with $30,000 systems even need a monitor stand?  No. Think about it.

Are professionals willing to pay the price?  You bet. They probably aren't footing the bill, anyway  ;)

Doesn't mean they NEED it .. so still makes em idiot posers ;)
(or at least just 'posers', if someone else is paying they're the idiot)

I meant a mac pro, not the monitor stand .. you definitely need a monitor stand unless you're rich enough to pay some girls to hold it.
(the monitor doesn't even have a vesa mount)

Nobody NEEDS a Mac Pro, that's purely about posing .. hell it's probably not even the best PC for any particular job (except the job of posing).

Video won't tell you anything .. but it might make you laugh.

Okay, I got it now - fake video gag.

That's funny...

Most Mac Pro users will just add it to their wall of other monitors - or their tree, if it's on a desk.

Only Mac Pro user I've run across, with a single monitor on his desk, was a graphic designer that reduced the pictures in a German manual down to an A4 printable size. I needed them for training purposes.

Gotta say, it was the biggest baddest Apple monitor I'd ever seen, at the time. I was impressed. The professional scanner he used was as big as a deep-freeze and equally impressive.

This guy's job was to design display advertising for newspapers. And, yes, he was a pro, not a poser.

Just saying...

Yeah, the video is purely for fun.  :D

We just kind of turned the conversation into "WTF Apple users." ;)

I just don't get how a Mac anything is supposed to make you "elite." You're just paying too damn much for off the shelf components put into an Apple case. That's all it is.

This is about as close to a direct comparison as I can get:

https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/imac/21.5-inch-2.3ghz-dual-core-processor-with-turbo-boost-up-to-3.6ghz-1tb

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-desktop-computers/inspiron-22-3000-touch-all-in-one/spd/inspiron-22-3277-aio/fdcw22ipun102s

So, for $370 cheaper, you can get a Dell with very similar hardware. The screen size is roughly the same. The Dell has a slightly faster processor, but the Mac has a slightly better GPU. Both have 8GB DDR4, the Dell's memory has a faster clock speed. Both have a 1TB 5400RPM HDD. So, you pay a $370 Apple "tax" for the "prestige" of owning a Mac. F*** that.

Now you guys did it. You got me thinking...

I'm setup with enough PCs to last me a lifetime, but I forgot about that scanner the graphic artist used.

Think it would be silly of me to purchase something like this, for personal usage?

I judge it's no worse than spending $30K USD on a Mac Pro.

http://www.allied-images.com/index.php/specialist-scanners/kurabo

A Mac Pro wouldn't be necessary. Simple Scan could handle it, right?

Then, I could start scanning/reducing shop manuals to A4 myself.

Hrm... wonder if I can find something like that on eBay  :-\

Did a quick search. Found for that magnificent Jap scanner on the web - $43,000 new (+$1800 shipping)

https://www.largeformatspecialist.com/Kurabo-K-IS-A1FW-ARCH-D-Size-24-x-36-Color-Flatbed-Scanner-400-DPI_p_436.html

I'd rather have one of those, than a Mac Pro, but I'll need to think about it a little.

Whatta ya think?

EDIT

Oops! That cheap POS is only 400 DPI. Hello ?!?!

800 DPI is $53,545.66 (+ $1800 shipping)

https://www.largeformatspecialist.com/Kurabo-K-IS-A1FW-Plus-ARCH-D-Size-24-x-36-Color-Flatbed-Scanner-800-DPI

Or, I could go for The Crown Jewel - $74,144 (free shipping)

https://www.largeformatspecialist.com/Kurabo-K-IS-A0FW-ARCH-E-Size-36x-50-Color-Flatbed-Scanner

Decisions, decisions...  ::)

Not without the optional vesa adapter they won't .. erm which will cost them $199 :))
(you couldn't make this stuff up)

Meh. A mere pittance for Mac Pro users...

They probably spend that much on Sexagintuple Vanilla Bean Mocha Frappuccinos at Starbucks every day.

$74,000 dollar scanner, or a house. You choose. :P

It's OK to look at expensive stuff and dream, Vin.

To be fair, even with everything I've said about them, I still can't get the idea of a Mac Mini out of my head.

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-3-6GHz-quad-core-Intel-processor/dp/B07K2M9FLB

As far as Macs go, that's not that bad of a price.

Sure an i3 for just $750 .. a steal :)
(not quite sure who's doing the stealing though)

Or you could get a Skull Canyon i7 gaming NUC .. probably also comes with rubber feet :)

Cool, maybe you'll be able to source the stand for just $945 soon then .. meanwhile you can just tape the monitor to the wall.

I've never owned a Mac, but anybody who has run or is running Windows can relate with that one. Especially when you have no idea how long it will take. Could be four minutes, could be four hours.

Trust me, owning a Mac paints a dollar shaped target on your back .. EVERYTHING is more expensive for a Mac, thought I guess it's just "charge what the market will bear" in action (all Mac owners either charging everything to daddy, or are rich and stupid at the same time).

At least that's my experience.
