Title: Can't access windows drives.
Post by: n6rej on September 29, 2018, 07:40:51 am
I'm not sure what in the world I"m doing wrong but I can't access any windows drives nor can i see *nix from windows.
I've gone thru samba and added users, I've shared my home folder in samba on *nix and I have lots of shares in windows.
Can someone help clear my head please.

Are these Windows 10 & Peppermint 9 machines ?

If so, I'd suggest you make sure SMB v1 is installed and active in both Peppermint and Windows

Instructions for enabling SMB v1 in Peppermint 9 can be found here:

Instructions for making sure SMB v1 is installed in Windows 10:-
(it's important that you REBOOT Windows because it does that very 'Windowy' thing where it's installed as part of the shutdown and bootup process)

in windows 10 do I want smb server on also or just client?  I want to be able to see files both ways because ultimately I want 2 of the windows drives to be mapped in peppermint.
and yeah, its peppermint 9 & win 10 x64 pro

Just tick the box next to "SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" if it isn't already ticked.

Sorry I can't remember at the moment, I don't **think** you require the server but can't remember for sure) .. try em both and see if it helps .. you can always untick the server again later.

You might also want to check your Windows PC's are in the WORKGROUP workgroup
(or alter this in samba on Peppermint)

and make sure "Network Discovery" is enabled in Windows.

before getting into how to set up gufw for samba try turning firewall off first and see if windows can see your linux network then
