Title: Printers
Post by: drowzee1872 on September 28, 2018, 03:01:02 pm
I have an Epson XP-425 printer that's connected to my home network. The only way I can print anything is via libreoffice. None of the other apps or programs can print. The jobs seem to be rejected by the printer. This is the first time I have experienced this. I have the correct driver(s) installed..... any ideas before i reinstall peppermint afresh.

What documents do not print?

Connected to your network how ?

Has this setup EVER worked, or is it a problem that has just started ?

When you say "rejected by the printer", where are you seeing that message ?

Does your printer ave a static IP ?

And have you tried printing a test page form within "Printers" ?

And have you tried restarting the router, printer, and PC (in that order) ?

Yup, The test Page from Printers does print. Libreoffice... anything will print from that.  But the pdf viewer for example .... nada .. does not print. Any web browser, Chrome, Firefox or Opera.... does not print.

Yes this is a recent issue, although I may have just noticed it....!

When I say rejected by the printer.... I open the print queue and the job appears there, It displays "printing" on the printer for a second or two, and then the job is cancelled. I assume by the printer.

It is a really bizarre isuue. I have tried removing the drivers and reinstalling them.

Have you tried removing the printer via the CUPS web interface .. then readding it via "Printers" (or via CUPS itself if it's detected)

I removed the printer in both "Printers" and "Cups" but no dice..... Still only prints the test page or via libreoffice. I will try a fresh install today, just in case I removed something I shouldn't have.

So it DOES print a test page ? .. from within the "Printers" dialog ?

I had a similar problem with the Epson XP-355. I could get text to print from LibreOffice but didn't get anything from other programs when I tried to print images.

Some time next week I'm over at someones place that has an XP-342 (AFAIK he's only ever used it in Windows, but he does have a Peppermint 9 PC too so I can test it) .. I'll see if his does the same, and if so whether I can figure out what's going on.

I had to check this before posting...
As you know I'm on PM7, but my daughter is on PM9. The printer-driver-cups-pdf package is not installed on the default PM9 system, but is on PM7.
Just a thought

I solved my own issue. I removed the printer using printers, and then re-added using the 'LPD/LPR queue PASSTHRU' option. Everything now prints as it should.

Cool, I'm glad you were able to work it out. :)

I tried this on mine and I just get several pages with gibberish/symbols scattered over them, even when trying to print a test page.

The other two options result in jobs disappearing after they're sent to the printer.
