Title: Adding programs to Menu
Post by: shugal on September 21, 2018, 06:41:46 am
I've downloaded a few (hopefully) reliable programs from their websites and while Installing them works fine I don't know how to add them to the Menu.
Do I have do install a program for that or do I have to use the command line (if so, how?)?

Thanks in advance!

Sure! I installed the Tor browser, i e I downloaded it from here

https://www.torproject.org/dist/torbrowser/8.0/tor-browser-linux64-8.0_en-US.tar.xz

and extracted it.

The Tor browser when first run creates its own launcher (it just needs copying/moving to the right location so it shows up in the menu)  .. you need to copy it to either:-

~/.local/share/applications
(this will only show up in the menu of the current user only)

or

/usr/share/applications
(this will show up in the menu of ALL users)

So we need to know where you extracted your Tor browser, so we know where the start-tor-browser.desktop file is located.

Can you run:
Code: [Select]
sudo updatedbthen post the output from:
Code: [Select]
locate start-tor-browser.desktop
